Is getting your car detailed worth $200+?

Typically in this area Scott, these guys will speed glaze and throw a coat of wax on and calll it a day. Yeah, it looks good for a little while and then it's washed away after 2 weeks

Yup, that's what I'm saying. Just for comparisons sake, auto repair rates are in the $100-125 range/hour at most dealerships. For $200, you'll be lucky to actually get a real clay job and an AIO. It comes down to time, how long does a good detail take?

I would never dish out that kinda money personally. Seems like such a waste. Its just going to get dirty again, right? :nervous2:

It isn't a hack job if you are doing a basic, 1 DA polishing step. $200 is about right for that type of detail and done right, will exceed the expectations of about 90% of my customers. The other 10% will opt for a higher level of polishing. Most people don't look at cars the way we do and just want a good shine and protection. Of course, you should take the opportunity to teach them what a proper mutli-step detail will do for their paint and hopefully turn them from a basic detail customer to a correction customer.

As long as the person doing a $200 detail isn't making outlandish promises of correction and either leaving horrible buffer trails or simply filling in swirls with a glaze and using a cheap wax, for many people, a good 1 DA polishing step detail will make them very happy. The car will have significantly more gloss and depth and be well protected when done properly.

The voice of reason. Everyone here seems to think that people walk around with $500+ in their wallets looking for an extensive detail. There's nothing wrong with getting a basic detail on a DD, and $200 isn't off base for same in many areas.

It's ok to cater to the 2% that care that much (and I'm one of them), but let's be realistic. Look to your left and right the next time you're out driving around, and count the number of people that seem to give a damn if their paint is perfect.

Absolutely. But.... take a look up in your browser's url bar. We're here to talk about the best of the best, this isn't angieslist.com. Just keeping it in perspective.

BTW, it's absolutely hilarious to me how much attention this thread has gotten, given that it is CLEAR that this guy is a SPAMMER! Look at all the links to local detailers he has put, and only has one post!

The mods should put some sort of requirement that new members should have at least 10 posts before they are allowed to post links.

I guess I misinterpreted what you guys were saying. $200 can get you a good service (perhaps a wash and wax or simple polishing step, etc.) at a detailing establishment, but not one that claims to include all the stuff that those guys include for $200. So I see what you guys are saying when you say somebody that claims to do a full detail and paint correction/interior shampoo, etc., for $200 is probably going to do a hack job.
