Im going to deatil my dads truck for a fathers day present, its a 2002 Silver Nissan Frontier. The paint is not in real good shape, it feels rough. Since more then likely Im going to have to polish it twice, with Poorboys 2.0, then 1.0, do I really have to clay after Im washing? I dont mind to do it and Im not looking to cut corners, I was wondering if it was needed? Thanks.....Gregg

If it feels rough then yes, clay it. Polishing the paint is not the same as removing embedded contaminants.

You can wash it and as you wash clay a panel at the same time. This saves time on having to "rewash" the vehicle. What I do is start on one panel ans wash it as I normally would and rinse, then use my soapy mitt to lubricate that panel and have a bottle of qd or soapy/water to assist in lubrication and clay that same panel, then rinse it again. IMO this save a little time for me at least, since have tried the traditional wash, clay, wash method.

I never use the PC without claying first. Let's just say I was very hard on the first finishes I tried without claying. Luckily it was an older car. Had to do it again to get it to look right.

I've done my first (2) details using a PC on brand new cars, and I clayed them because that's what everyone advised. It was a breeze----45 min. Do it----you'll like it. I did not bother to re-wash either-just wiped with MF, as I was going to polish in next step.

K, guys i know some ya'lls claying method is either once a year or twice a year.

My question is...will it hurt the paint if i clay it often like maybe once a month before i wax my car?

Though i know she prolly doesn't needs to be clayed cause the paint condition is immaculate...i just love it when my baby is SUPER clean.

It woudn't hurt if you clayed that much times. However use a less abrasive clay like the sonus green if you still want your previous wax job to be on top. If not, everything will come off.

I always clay before using a paste wax. Rubbing on the paint dislodges tiny sediments that don't quite come off during a wash. You don't want to be dislodging that stuff while your in the middle of waxing! its like taking sandpaper to your paint.

Thanks for the input fellas but i have the Zaino clay bar #18 and i don't know the abrasive level on that? Might have to look into what you mentioned the Sonus green.
