Is a QD truly a QD

I haven't been on the board in awhile and was curious. I had been using Poorboys Spray N Wipe and Bird **** remover as my touchup and wipe offs. Now my quik detailer is Quik Shine and Clear Pearl. Now from what I remember these QD's are a protection step but not for use as a clean up spray thats where Spray N Wipe comes in even though QS contains a light polish. So I only use these on clean paint. Now do most QD's contain enough whatever to clean paint like dust, bird crap, water spots, tar etc..... without scratching.



Hopefully I'm making some sense:D



Also anybody using Spray N wipe as total car wash not after offroading or something but for a few days to a weeks filth

I think some Qd's are designed strictly to add gloss to the car after a wash while others like adam's QD are designed to be used as a cleaner as well as adding gloss. Adams Detail Spray even says it can be used as a waterless wash but I dont trust it to that extent.

I wouldnt use any QD for anything other than minor dusting or cleaning
 
I've used Spray N Wipe after a week of the car sitting on the drive. Seemed to work fine, although I usually prefer to do a traditional wash if the car has been unwashed for 7 days.
 
Spray & Wipe, Adam's Detail Spray, and Meg's FI for when the car is a little dirty, they will clean and add gloss. Clearkote's Quick Shine, Meg's Last Touch, Mother's Showtime for when the car has light dust. At least this is what I do.
 
Not to get technical and I'm no expert but do these products contain surfacants that would ease the removal of things while minimizing scratching?
 
*ALL* QD's contain ingredients to dissolve and encapsulate light contaminants while keeping the paint lubricated to prevent marring. That is their primary purpose.



QD's are not meant to be a protection step, although some contain *minimal* carnauba/synthetics to add something, and most have paint *brighteners* to improve appearance.



My favourite QD is Mothers Showtime, and I've heard great things about Clearkote's Quick Shine.
 
Thanks for the response Alfisti. I have used QS as my go to QD for awhile but I feel more comfortable using Spray N Wipe for alittle heavier stuff
 
I use a deviation of QEW for very mild cleaning and bird crap removal. I add 2-3 cap fulls of QEW to a 32 oz spray bottle of water and spray each section down individually and allow to dwell a few seconds. Wipe with plush cotton towels (my new use for them after converting to MF's). Since QEW contains some form detergent.a excellent lube and protectant (short-lived) it works quite well. Saturation of the area with water or some form of non-caustic liquid, will be the major agent against surface marring when removal of things like bird crap. Bird crap will definitely marr one's paint even with a good QD or my solution if one is not gentle when removing.



I find this QEW a wonderful solution for light cleaning and QD'ing.



Full bath is always by the bucket and hose method unless I intend to polish afterwards. :xyxthumbs
