Ipa

it's a 50/50 mix

50% isopropyl alcohol

50% water

it's what most people use to wipe a area that was just polished to make sure there is no fillers left and allows you to see the truth of the panel.

Some people even will wash the vehicle, dry it and then do a IPA wipe down to make sure all the wax and everything is stripped off to see the true paint condition and what they are working with.

i used IPA to wipedown before polishing as well as in between stages. It removes all the polish residue to make sure you're not filling in anything or missing anything

same effect as a paint cleaner i assume?

Kind of, but not really IMO. A true paint cleaner will do a lot more cleaning than wiping with IPA. The alcohol will compromise LSPs, and remove a lot of oils/fillers/etc., but it's not all *that* effective a cleaner. I even prefer TOL's PrepWash for the stuff people use IPA for; even after multiple IPA wipes, PrepWash can still get a lot of, for example, M205 oils out/off of "sticky" paints.

Paint cleaners like Deep Crystal Step#1 or KAIO can clean a lot more effectively than just wiping with a solvent like IPA.

Let me ask a question is I may:

So I want to wax a newer car and need to take the wax off before I apply some new stuff. I need to do it like this (stuff I will use):

1 ONR

2 Dry car

3 Get IPA in a 50/50 ratio in a spray bottle if beading is present on the car

4 Use IPA on a panel and then dry with MF

5 Lube and clay panel

6 Dry again

7 Wax

I would do it like this, but that's because I don't like using IPA to remove wax/sealants

  1. Wash/ONR
  2. Dry
  3. Clay
  4. Pre-wax Cleaner
  5. Wax

What is your product of choice as the pre-wax cleaner or can you recommend some p-w-c?

Right now I'm using CG EZ-Creme Glaze but I have some CG Vertua-Bond 408 on order which will be here Thursday.

I know the EZ-Creme is a glaze but it's also supposed to prep the surface for LSP's. I'm going to compare the two and see which I like better. ;)
