Interior Glass Cleaning. Advice

The problem I have always had with interior glass cleaning (especially the windshield and rear, cuz they are slanted) is the MF "grabbing" the glass. I am using the Cobra All Purpose Towels. Also tried the ADS glass towel.



I really tried to live with it, but now I was hoping for better. Its hard to do nice long streak free strokes if the towel keeps grabbing and skipping (granted positioning your self is already awkward). I use IG with Rain repellent. I was thinking maybe optiseal would make it smoother for the next clean.



I know everyone is prob tired of these glass cleaning post but I was hoping someone had some good advice to make the process smoother.
 
I use Meguiar's Detailer Line Glass cleaner with their Ultimate (short nap) microfiber and get no grabbing. Nice smooth wipe off and no streaks, smears or linting. I don't use a lot of pressure as it is not needed. I let the mf do all the work.



I also don't use vinyl or leather treatment products that outgas a lot so the glass doesn't get a film build from parking in the hot sun.

Setec: Maybe its film. I might have to give the windshield a good scrubing with a mf applicator perhaps with sufficient glass cleaner. Then follow with normal procedure.



jfelbab: The ADS towel is very short nap, which is theory, i guess is suppose to be good for glass. It might be film. Maybe from outgas. Hmm.. I did use Meg #40 recently and previously it could have been new car outgas. Maybe I should switch to 303.
 
I've recently gone back to using surgical towels on the glass instead of microfiber. I had the same problem of grabbing and also linting from the microfiber. I tried perhaps 10 different types of microfibers on the windows but all with basically the same result. In the past I had used surgical towels followed with a terry cloth towel with great results. I tried this again and it worked perfectly the first time. No grabbing, no linting and no streaks. I use either SIG or just hit them with my steamer and wipe. Hope this helps.

I'd like to take the time to mention how much I hate cleaning inside glass. That is all.
 
Dan O: are there different types of surgical towels? I have these towels Buff & Shine Heavy Duty Microfiber Glass Towel



They are a silky sort of texture and excellent on the outside windows but suffer from some grabbing like the rest when it comes into inside glass cleaning. They kind of look close to surgical towels only with a more smoother texture.

Id just like to take the time to state the fact that I hate glass of all sorts.



Now that that is out of the the way, a few tips that work for me, despite myself:



Clearkote Quickshine works for me much better than IG does.

Blue surgical towels or the thick white paper towels used at hospitals are great for the initial cleaning, then a short nap mf.



Ive also considered getting that reacher thing sold at AG, a similar one sold at DI, or the cheapy version at Walmart, just to assist in getting in the tough spots.

A surgical towel is made of natural cotton, not synthetic like microfiber. There are better quality surgical towels out there, usually made in the USA ones are heavier in weight and better in quality (but not always). I don't understand why the microfiber cloths don't work well for me on glass, but they don't, and I'm sick of wasting money trying to find one that does. I have even cleaned the glass my way and then came back afterwards with microfiber on the clean glass, and still they grab, lint and streak. The surgical towels wipe smoothly across the glass and with proper washing and care leave no lint behind. Just do a search for surgical or huck towels online, pick up a few and give them a try. You might be pleasantly surprised how quick and easy glass cleaning can be. Again this is just my old school way that works for me, others I'm sure have a way that works for them that differs from mine. Good Luck, Dan O.

Dan O: Is there a good site to get them from or a popular store that sells them? This is ending up with me spending more money. Hopefully I wont get killed by shipping cuz I really only plan on getting maybe 2 or 3 to try.

Thanks Dan O. To be fair to the forum, I did a quick search on what already has been discussed about Surgical Towels. It looks like some people have problems with these towels linting and not absorbing. The ones you recommended are "prewashed", so I guess that means something? And of course you mentioned these will glide smoothly as it was my main concern.
 
I tried so many different things and I was never happy with the glass work my customers never said anything but I noticed it. I have been having luck and great results with Black Glass and the blue paper towels from AZ they cost about 2.50 per roll but they work great for me I also wash each window at least 3 times. first 2 just to clean then a finale wipe.
