Interior Fragrances?

I have the Cherry and the "Fresh" or "New Car" scent. Both are fantastic. The Cherry isn't too overpowering--it smells just like his Natural Look but with more lasting power. The "Clean" scent is pretty decent too--much more subtle but definitely smells great.



I found the Leather Yankee fresheners to be quite overpowering--it actually made me feel somewhat ill after a day or two. I recommend going with an apple and a cinnamon flavor from Yankee (yes, together). I don't remember what Yankee calls them--Macintosh and something else, maybe "Home Sweet Home" or something. Punch a couple of holes in the bag and put one under each front seat. In the states, you can find Yankee fresheners in (so far) any Hallmark store.

Now, I like the Regular Ozium, and the Vanilla's not bad, but I just can't take the new car scent-and I can't even describe it. I agree. I always get comments from passengers on how my car still smells new!:xyxthumbs

It actually puzzles a few people, since they know my car's almost 3 years old now. It's funny!

My vote for the Yankee Candle leather scent. It can be overpowering if you remove it fully from the package clip the corners and pull it out alittle and more as it fades plus Z10 is an awesome smell and leather conditioner too:xyxthumbs !
 
I don't use air freshners in my customer's cars. Freshly detailed cars smell pretty good on their own. Besides, most luxury cars have their own distinct scent. Blindfolded, I can tell if I am in a BMW, Infiniti, Lexus, Mercedes, etc. Most people who have those kinds of cars want them to smell like they are supposed to.

This is true of nearly all cars, not just the 'high-priced spread'. My Triumphs smelled different from my Jaguars, which had a different smell than my T-Bird, which were all different from my Isuzu and from my Chrysler. All of these were completely different from all of the other cars I have ever owned as well.



Probably why nobody will ever be successful in developing a true 'New Car Scent' deodorizer. That is unless they diversify into numerous different 'flavours'. (I can see it as I write....calling Griots and ordering a deodoriser in "Audi". Comments such as "Ummmm....do you have anything in more like a '98 STS??" :D )







That said.....still looking for a US source for AG AutoFresh if anyone has any suggestions.

Basically what we are smelling in these new cars and cars with their distinctive smells are chemicals and materials i.e. glues bonding agents, leathers, plastics, etc that, who knows, could cause cancer hehe. Anywho to really get that true "new car" smell you would have to literally get new leather seats and plastic moldings and maybe new carpet from the dealer. Or find out what chemical agents was used to manufacture the car's plastic and hunt down a vial of it.



I just get my bucket of assorted air fresheners and have them choose. Its just to personal to choose for them.
 
Every now and then I use the very "Ozium like" Wurth Odor Neutralizer. Around the holidays I use cinnamon cented pine cones in a plastic bag, put under the seats. And ofcourse the old stand by......The Vanillaroma tree.
 
SOFAST ODOR EATER - BACTERIA KILLER from Chemical Guys.

This stuff smells like green apples....not overpowering at all, very pleasant

and fresh smelling. I use it on the carpet, and air vents.

I highly recommend trying it.
 
I can't believe you guys spend money on standalone air fresheners! I get a small thin-cloth bag (the kind collectors use for coins) and I put powdered Gain laundry detergent in it. The smell is subtle and you can increase it anytime by holding the bag in front of a HVAC vent for a few seconds. I've also cut a few slots into a soap box, but I have yet to find a soap that I can enjoy in my truck. :)
 
When you really need to get rid of strong smells Odor Eaters with pleasant Scents are a great way to go. My advice use a leather conditioner on the leather and then follow it with a true Leather Air Freshener ..... I have a found a few that smell Exactly like a new Lexus or BMW!! Very Nice and I have yet to have a customer complain. The secret is to make the customers think that the car smells new again (without offering an air freshener to them at all) that way when they open the door the car smells like you cleaned it so well the NEW CAR SMELL CAME BACK :)
 
Sorry forgot to mention.............. Good odor Eaters not only Cover odor but actually kill the bacteria that creates odor leaving a true fresh scent.



lol Air fresheners are like perfume on someone with body odor, Odor Eaters destroy the odor not just mask it up ..

This would be a much more affective post if you would tell us specifically which products you use

That's deceitful in my opinion. I don't want to lie to my customers through omission of the fact that I used a fragrance in their vehicle. I would rather tell them right up front that the new car smell does go away after a time, and explain why that is -- and then sell them the air freshener as a service add-on telling them it can make the new car scent return temporarilly.



Not only do they appreciate the honesty and the explanation, but also I can charge them $5 to pull a trigger a couple times!! Now THATS honest business right there! :grinno:
 
I've been wondering what to use. This is a very useful thread. I will have to give some of those options a try!
 
I love California air freshners---3 small "organic" squares in the metal cans---last about a month with a good strong smell that everyone loves



Or if I detail the neighbor's car I'll put a few dryer sheets under the seat for a fresh smell.
 
California air fresheners do smell great also those little cassette cases dispensers they have at race shops are nice too. ! Lately I have found my favorite two products to be The Green Apple Odor Eater and Leather Scent from Chemical Guys, Good value and a natural pleasant scent.
