Interior Detailing Scent Question

I've noticed after having a car's interior detailed professionally it results in a really strong scent. It's similar to a new car scent, maybe not the same, but definitley very strong.

What products do professional detailers use in the interior that would cause these strong scents?

There are many scents that can be added. Personally I use Rightlook.com's Odor Eliminator until I have used it all, then I'll be looking around again.

I've tried so many different new car scents.. Nothing has given off the scent like what i've found after it's been detailed professionally.

Does CG's new car actually smell like a new car? Basically I'm looking to see what the professionals use to get that clean smell.

The reason behind the strong scents is because most true professional odor products are malodor products that contain live enzymes that will sit and eat odor causing bacteria The more they eat the more scent they release. It's also why it last for days. Where as detailers just using simple OTC products might give you a nice scent for a couple hours or so. They are not commercial grade and don't hold up like commercial grade products do. But in my opinion not all scents are very pleasent. Some are downright nausiating to me. I personally like the fresh scent and the citrus scents. I tend to try and stay away from the cinnimons and candy scents.. The "new car" scents also don't sit well with me when first applied either.

Last summer I bought a new/used car for my wife. Its a 2004 Kia Sedona. The car had 40,000 miles on it and it had that new smell. The salesman said that all there used cars get sent out to get detailed. I asked were and I took a ride there. A guy at the detail shop said that they spray nothing in the cars , and that it was the shampoo they use . I bought some from him , he told how to mix it .I took it home and tried it on my other cars , and it didnt work for me. It didnt leave a new scent , It didnt leave a scent at all. I would have goin back but Its a long ride.

I'm with Jake, personally haven't found a new car smell i like. I also stick with the clean smells and citrus. Big D's Sunburst and Malco's citrus? both smell like Fruit Loops.

I picked up a lip stick sized aerosol, Glade Clean Linen from Wal Mart, that i like. Also small enough to fit in your pocket, good for that final touch when car is delivered.

I used Meguiars M40 for the interior and customers like that smell, they say it almost like new car smell but also a leather smell.

We just performed a complete detail on an M5 and used an ozone treatment. The owner, picked up the car after it aired for three hours and commented on "clean" the car smelled!!

odor bomb or ozone treatment as far as i know is the only way to kill ordors and not just mask them. which is my guess what the detail shop used. once that process did its thing and left the car with a clean atmosphere they may have sprayed some air freshner in the car. it just smelled strong cause it had nothing to cover up

In addition to the steamer, I like to use Ozium which will kill bacteria in the air and the scent diminishes over time to just a clean scent, most people do not like "pine or vanilla" scents in the car.

Phil @ Detailers domain has a hvac cleaner which I am going to try, maybe he can elaborate on this.

Before a detail, I let the client choose a scent from the Wonder wafers pack I bought. Most will pick "clean car" scent. This way its smells the way they want it to. And it will smell good for about three to four weeks before the scent fades.

I don't do scents. A clean interior smells better anyway.

Most detailers can tell what kind of car they are in blindfolded simply by the way the interior smells (assuming it isn't completely trashed). I try not to disturb that natural scent if at all possible.
