Interesting comparison between Duragloss 101 and Zaino AIO

They all pay that to Warner chemicals, so why would they not pay it to this "other company?"

As I said what if there is an exclusivity agreement. OR if Zaino owns the patent then they might choose not to re-produce it for other companies.

Warner Chemical doesn't make chemicals in the way that BASF, DuPont, Dow, etc. make chemicals. We went through this in another thread where Dow Corning (one of the largest suppliers of silicones, a major active ingredient in car care products) actually has recipes for LSP's, etc. on their website. I think Warner Chemical would be characterized as a formulator and blender.

Patents? It's a common misconception that everything in the world is covered by a patent, which is just not true. If Zaino had any patents, I would expect it to be mentioned on their website, even if they are expired (which they do after 17 years). Zaino would be considered a proprietary formulation. As an aside, Ultima Paint Guard Plus has a patent pending, so if that patent is for the formulation (rather than the sprayer design or something like that), we will all be able to read what makes UPGP tick when the patent is published.

I think at this point the whole discussion is off track, and I'm sitting out until at least after Scott posts his results.

No you cannot necessarily patent the entire formula but you can patent the base formula. This is part of what leads me to believe that Zaino did not creae its own formula for the bases.

So 2 different airplanes are constructed of aluminum. Does that make them the same design, structure and same material? NO, they could have radically different structures, designs capacity and totally different grades(or compositions) of aluminum components.

Even if they looked the same from the outside they could be radically different internally.

Klasse and Werkstadt are acryllics- does that make them the same as a can of $5 acryllic paint on the shelf at WalMart?

Side by side, using both on a Porsche Carrera, I don't see a fucntional difference between the two. That doesn't necessarily mean they are the same product because AIO and Prime are pretty similar too. However, seeing that Duragloss is available locally and is cheaper I'll probably get another bottle of 101 instead of Z-AIO when it runs out.

BTW, both worked quite well with the new Ultima sealant. :)

Do they both apply the same- by hand and by machine? Do they both look the same after curing? Do they both perform the same after several washes? BTW the DG 501 marine polish is probably the better product.

I applied by machine and both finished down with very little visible residue and slicnkess, gloss and wetness seemed identical. I don't plan to use either one as a one step so I probably won't know how long term durability compares. What I use ZAIO for is a final polish prior to applying a sealant. I've got a lot of ZAIO left, I'm definitely not throwing it out! I'll use it up and most likely move on to 101...but I will definitely check out the Marine version. :)

Good to know. Applied via machine I assume?

I find more similarities than differences between DG and Z, i.e. performance, looks, application, durability, protection, etc...only difference is that I can easily get DG locally and save myself a lot of cash over using Z. While I know Z is a quality product, I don't feel I'm giving up a single thing not using Z any longer.

Years ago, before 105 and AW ever came out, the old DG sealant (111) had instructions that were almost a dead ringer for the ones on some old Z2 I had. There were others that were also pretty similar. Some of the products were so much alike that I guarantee in a blind test, people (even diehard Z users) couldn't tell the difference in terms of smell, application, and final look.
