Interested in zaino, unsure if z aio is the way to go?

Cars are...

2008 Bwm 328i - alpine white - Car has nothing on it, light swirl marks.

2008 Mazdaspeed 3 - crystal white pearl - 1z mp/845 as of about 4 months ago, going strong. Little to no swirls marks or defects.

I figured I would wash the mazda with dawn along with the aio anyway to make sure I have all the old stuff off. is this a bad idea?

I have.. z7,z18,zaio,zfx,z2,z8. I did not get z6 as it seems like it was not needed.

Concur with your plan. You'll find mixed feelings here about using Dawn, I do use it probably every year or two. Suggest you use Z-AIO, 2 or 3 coats of Z-2 with Z-FX, Z-8. Lighter cars with a good finish look much better with Z-2 because it doesn't have the "filler" Z-5 contains. Did my Excalibur, Lexus, and Buick Reatta last October. Yes, my cars are garaged every night, but all still bead beautifully. Just finished cleaning up my garage today. Plan to square away my tools (kids and grand kids "borrow" them) tomorrow, and begin a detail over the weekend (depending on the weather and who's playing on the tube). Depending on how the surface feels after a Z-7 wash, may or may not use AIO. If it feels smooth, I'll use Z-2 on the Lexus and Z-5 and Z-2 on the Buick and Excalibur.
