Insurances?

Just curious what kind of insurance plans you guys have with yoru mobile companies? I don't know enough insurance lingo to ask more than that. To me, i would think that it probably gets pretty high-considering that your being held liable for someone else's car, if something goes wrong be it burning off the paint or dinging a door with the vacuum, etc...i'm just curious what that is lumped into as a business policy?

Or can you get around it by basically having an owner sign a waiver stating that if something happens, tough luck?

It's actually very low risk compared to other businesses that touch a vehicle. I have mine through State Farm. If you actually drive the cars back and forth it gets a little costly. But if you don't drive the car then you can save yourself some good dollars.

When I was strictly mobile I had $500K Gen Liability, $50,000 garage keepers, $10,000 tools, $1,200 office equipment for under $500. Now I'm fixed and mobile and it runs about $1400 per year with $200K liability. Extra for workers comp.

ok great, thanks so much, $500 sounds great-i assume that's a yearly cost?

Also, does it make sense what i said about having customers sign a waiver-do you do that at all?

i too was thinking about getting insurance . . . . i thought state farm had something but wasn't sure. I believe i was quoted about $1200 a year but i need to fill out all the info for a on the money quote.

That was for $1,000,000 policy (medical wise) and like $50,000 per car (garage keepers)

Curiosity has the best of me here....

Why such a high Gen Liability? What does it cover? And what is "garage keepers"? Which covers the client's car?

Why would you need a half million dollar policy? The only person you can possibly hurt detailing (if solo) is yourself - I doubt you'd sue yourself. If you damaged the car, I seriously doubt it'd be over $20k worth of damage (unless of course it required a total repaint, client refused, wanted a new car, etc = understandable), but even then, I wouldn't think you'd need much more than $100k unless you're doing exotics. Most I see they could sue you for is the car, loss of time w/out car, rental car fees, minimal "emotional distress", but this would be absolute nutjob client in worst case scenario.

Like I said, just curious. The diff in premium between $100k and 500k is probably only $100 year anyway and worth the extra C-note for "just in case" and a nice advertising edge.
