Initial review of Finish Kare FK1 Pink Wax

I think you were right on the money. FK needs to show some proof of durability since he has made the outrageous claims or he needs to admit that he is simply hyping the product. Perhaps he would like to send out some samples of the claimed 1 year lasting products?? rather than have someone spend 50 bucks for a gallon of the stuff only to find out it lasts a month.

David, this thread didn't start out as a question to the mfr., so "Ask the Manufacturer" wouldn't have applied in this one. FK just kind of chimed in here, and that's kind of difficult to control except by your "moderator" warning. I think you did the right thing.

Finish Kare didn't just chime in here. Some people were pointing out that Scott didn't let the product setup long enough and FK told him what they rec. Then I asked what about durability, he didn't just give out the durability figures, I asked!

Why do you have to buy it in a gallon size? They sell it in a 16 oz bottle as well.

According to their website, the 2180 is only available in the gallon size. Is there somewhere else to buy it?

04cobra I don't think the fact that he stated the durability is such an issue is that how long he stated the durability was and then offered NOTHING as to prove it. A year seems an awful long time for a coat of sealant.

I apologize. I wanted to give DavidB some feedback, and I reread the thread too fast.

There is a Pro and a Consumer portion of their site (it's sometimes a little difficult to navigate). The consumer side typically has smaller containers, including the 1 pint size of the 2180. Consumer Shopping Site

Apology accepted, I do that all the time, then I realize someone said the same thing 2 posts above!:D

Quote: Label us as "Reps" I guess but we really prefer the other 4 letter word Tech. EOQ FinishKare

You are quite right I purposely used the word â€Ëœrepâ€â„¢ as apposed to â€ËœTechâ€â„¢ as I donâ€â„¢t think a technical person would make claims of longevity / durability for such an extended period of time with a low melting point wax.

I don't think DavidB overreacted on this issue.

In fact if memory serves FinishKare was banned once before

I just want to see how these claims came about.

David, over-reacted? Heck no. Some people need a good reality check sometimes. No one here is dumb enough to believe outrageous claims as stated.

I can see now why so many wax/sealant manufacturers don't make specific durability claims.

Hey Scottwax! Are you waiting for the cable people to show up?

I never see you posting during the day. :D

I have no problem how David reacted - it is his board.

On the other hand I have to *defend* Finish Kare and their posts.

(I know, I know they are a business and would love to get new sales through Autopia - but what company wouldn't) Honestly, how many people will actually fork out $$$ to get their product? FK is not one of the favorites here.

I have been using their products more lately and posting pictures around here and there were many discussions about some of the same issues. They never chimed in once.

I know I am no Scottwax and when he speaks - people listen, but still they only responded after 04 asked specifically. Plus Scotwax didn't have directions with his sample.

I don't see what the biig deal is about their claim. If they are false, they will loose credibility and sales. Plus how many of us are looking for 12 months of protection anyway? On their website the 2180 claims to be the longest lasting sealant in the US.

I am still trying to digest how Scottwax gets such a long term protection with NXT & EX-P! :D

BW, my girlfriend's van with Natty's X3 and #16 x 1 still feels smooth as butter. ME LIKE!

Don't ask me about my car though. :down

It is raining. My morning customer cancelled because he is a weekly wash customer, so no sense getting anything done today. I am fixin' to go do an exterior detail on a silver 2001 BMW 740. I was also supposed to do their Navigator but with it raining and the need to drive one of the vehicles....at least it isn't a total washout though.

How do I get decent durability out of NXT and EX-P? No acid rain, no industrial fallout here. In addition, QEW is my primary wash and it is very gentle on wax. BTW, I get better durability out of EX w/carnauba than with EX-P. :nixweiss

yes but how much business do you think Scottwax will generate from Autopia for them? :D

Meguiar's and Poorboy's are cashing in from here no doubt but I don't think record sales will be the results from their post in Scottwax's thread.

I mean how many people do you think I influanced to purchase 2180 or pink wax?

Well, my thoughts of this are:

FK COULD have: redirected the questions to the "Ask the Mfg." forum.

: PM'd responses, telling the person that they can't post possibly commercial messages, and possibly hoped that the individual woud let others know the "answer".

SHOULD have: had some verifiable proof, and after 40+ years in the business, I would have expected a company to be prepared for such questions. I'd be surprised if Mfg's like Ford didn't have some questions and expect proof before buying products to use on millions of $'s of cars.

I found that FK said 1 thing (ie. they have no test results as proof) then said another (Conducting a test for Japanese, had independent detailers test their products for them).

I DO think they were answering questions as "politely" as one may expect a vendor to.

I think they kept to their own line more than when registered as "TLL."

I have used some of their products and they do last a while. However, I haven't had any long enough to say whether or not they last much past 3 months (so far they are, but I don't *know* that they'll last a fourth).

David: I think he handled the task as per the rules. I think that if he would have redirected the thread/questions himself, then any other vendor who was shut down past/present/future may expect "warning shots/redirections" for all threads that may run afoul of the rules.

I think that unless there is a change in the rules, all vendors might expect similar actions.

I like vendor interaction, but if the rules say "no" then everybody should "play by the rules" or work to change the rules.

Just my thoughts. :)
