My name is Mike
Initial Impressions: Gtechniq C1.5 Silo Seal

Introduction:

A new product line added to the ACC fold gave me all of the excuse I needed (which, admittedly, isn't much) to buy and try.

Thanks again to Corey for providing the format.

Product Claims:

From Autopia Car Care site - Gtechniq C1.5 Silo Seal

"Infuse your paint with extreme protection in a spray!

Amino functional siloxane sealant formula
High UV and chemical resistance
3 to 6 months of stand alone protection

Do not let Gtechniq C1.5 Silo Seal's easy application fool you. This is a cutting edge paint sealant infused with the latest in technology. C1.5 Silo Seal adds protection and gloss to your finish and it is perfect as a topper to Gtechniq C1 Crystal Lacquer or as a stand-alone paint sealant. It provides up to 6 months of extreme protection in an easy-to-use spray and wipe application.

Gtechniq went into their bag of tricks when formulating Silo Seal. Silo Seal combines an amino function siloxane base with highly layer-able quartz. The chemical binders in Gtechniq C1.5 Silo Seal are extremely resistance to UV radiation and acids. The totally of these ingredients are a paint sealant that drys quickly and combines superior long, lasting gloss with maximum durability.

Gtechniq C1.5 is extremely versatile as well. C1.5 can be used as a stand-alone surface sealant or on top of C1 Crystal Lacquer to provide increased hydrophobic properties. This quartz based sealant is layer-able. Add additional applications for more protection and shine. Gtechniq C1.5 Silo Seal can be applied to all hard surfaces, including paint, glass, plastic trim, under the hood, and interior surfaces!

For best results apply C1.5 Silo Seal to bare paint or paint already protected with C1 Crystal lacquer. Mist onto the surface and lightly spread. Flip the towel over and buff off to a high-gloss, highly protected shine."

Other Products Used:

MFs

Preparation:

Washed car and chemically stripped toppings on car (in this particular case, foamed with OPC + CG CW and 2 bucket washed with CG CWC) and thoroughly dried with 8hp MetroVac MasterBlaster. Followed with Griot's Garage Pre-Wax spray. Note - the Sonata is OptiCoated.

Application:

Shake very well. Spray lightly on surface. Spread with MF. Wipe off excess. I followed with a second coat 10 min later.

Observations:

Virtually no scent. Easy to apply and observed no streaking. Adds gloss and clarity. Excellent beading/sheeting. Also applied to wiper cowl and plastic trim.

Does it meet its claims? Yes.

Pros:

1.- Easy application and removal
2.- Fast application - maybe 15 min for each coat
3.- Glossy finish.

???:

1.- Durability - again, I'll never know.

Cons:

1.- A little grabby on application.

Final Observations and Summary:

This is a cautionary tale of managing expectations. I had really high hopes for Gtechniq C1.5 Silo Seal and, while it is excellent, it didn't knock my socks off. Does everything well but is not preternatural.

I will update next week with the more sheeting and beading info.

Videos:

I decided to try my hand at videos. Not exactly sure how you guys insert the actual frames.

Here are the afters.

Not sure about the copyright usage on music either so chose music from my buddy's band, ToppDown. (Shout out to drummer Rick Crisostomo!!) SD folks, go find him playing somewhere near you.

And my poor attempt to do a Troy-style sheeting/beading vid.

Great review. I also ordered this along with g1 over the weekend. I am
bit skeptical about the result, i currently use all blackfire and it does a great job. Last night I used the polymer spray and was thinking "how much better can the car really look".

I like the beats on the first video, pretty talented friends you have.:bigups

the finish of the car in the video looks great mike. do you think maybe the opticoat may have reduced the results any ?

Thanks for the review! The finish on the sheeting vid looks super glossy. Curious as to how this will rate vs Reload.

P.S. Nice choice of background music too! :D

I am guessing almost certainly. I am wondering the same about EXO. Depending on cost, I may let someone else try that on OptiCoat first.

I have Reload on top of Cquartz on my other car. Both go on about the same but Reload is less grabby and may darken the paint a touch more. Reload also is lemon scented. Will post updates.

Great review there and video also Mike, give a thumbs up for you.:bigups

Thanks Angelo.

Great review.

Thanks.

Great review Mike. Definitely a product I look forward to trying out. !!!

How do you think it compares to other spray sealants like OCW or Aquawax.

I need to stop reading reviews, who is a hoarder because of reviews? Lol....

Great review, have to try and review a product.

Nice review. I am thinking of doing a comparison of Silo Seal and Reload. I really like Reload so Silo Seal has a big bill to fill for me. I look forward to your updates and future thoughts.

Thanks Pat.

So far, I think it has a more glass-like look and tighter beading.

Thanks for the review and now with videos !!

Thanks Al.

Thanks Troy. I am in then same boat.

Thanks for another great review!

Thanks.

For those wondering about durability, I have had two coats (on top of C1) on one of my cars for four months now. (the C1 is over a year old) Water is still sheeting like crazy and the gloss looks wonderful.

WOW, hopefully I can apply C1.5 to my wife's car this weekend. I am going to strip the car of that last LSP and see how long the c1.5 last.

So, 1 week later and I am liking Silo Seal more and more. Dust was greatly reduced and it definitely beads and sheets like crazy.

Note - the video was after a rinse but not yet washed (didn't want to influence the results).
