Initial Flex questions

COME AT ME BRO
1) Does the Flex normally get pretty warm around the silver housing? How long should it stay this warm?

2) How much pressure are you guys applying when removing defects with the Flex?

I may have more later, but these are the two that have popped into my head using the Flex this afternoon.

1. Yes they do get warm, some guys spray a little WD40 or 3 in 1 oil in the gears. I have never really paid attention how long they stay warm.

2. Depending on the defect I will start with a lot of pressure, pushing hard enough to get the panel to deflect sometimes and then lighten up as I work it until I am just using it's weight.

Mine gets warm too.
I vary pressure from light to heavier back to light and see if has diminished. If not, or not enough, then more pressure, etc..

I don't use a lot of pressure when using the FLEX. I tend to tip it ever so slightly until I feel the buffer start to bite in. You still are keeping the whole pad touching the surface as much as possible and you only tip it on your initial couple passes.

Like Troy, I do not apply a lot pressure using the Flex. I have never noticed if the silver housing gets warm or not. Will have to check the next time I use it.

how would you guys rate the flex da next to the pc 7424 da?
I bought a dewalt a while back, i used it twice, now i wish i had known about the flex da.
i got great results witht the dewalt, but i had to clean up some mess afterwards with my pc anyway.

JP, do you still have a positive outlook on the Flex in spite of your noted heat issue?

And please refresh my memory, were you using a rotary also pre Flex?

Overall, yes. I think the Flex is a good machine. the heat issue is something I have an email in to Powerhouse distributing about. It appears that at least a couple other people have noticed the heat issue, and their question regarding it never got answered. I figure someone at Powerhouse can give me an acceptable heat operating range

And I am not proficient enough with the rotary to say that I was ever a rotary user. :D
