Inexpensive buffers?

I'm looking to purchase a buffer. Are there any good, but inexpensive ones available? Have a few bird crap/tree sap spots from the previous owner that got etched in. I'd like to buff them out.

The cheapest is the Habor Freight rotary- 30.00 if i remember correctly.

But if you are going to use it often i would spend the money and get a good one!

Makita or Dewalt

I plan to use it often. What about the random orb Porter Cable?

get a DA, there are plenty to choose from. PCXP, G110V2, Griots 6" Random Orbital. every detailer should have one IMO...

Yep, DA is what I would recommend for your uses.

I purchased my Griot's 6" unit for about $129. Pretty good price if you ask me. The unit has been a tank too - several years of my uses and it's pretty much like new.

Get a G110... You wont look back

Especially with 2.0 having just came out, you should be able to get an original one on the cheap. A Harbor Freight rotary isn't as worthless as the cheap price dictates, mine still works fine and I haven't had any problems to speak of with it. The only quirk is the somewhat annoying speed control, but you get used to it.

The G110v2 seems to be $149 shipped in several places

The Griot's RO is $129 plus shipping.

The PCXP is available at Coastal Tool for $125 shipped (w/ backing plate and 6" counterweight)

Any of these will be a good choice.

I have delt with acid rain and bird etching many times and i have found that wet sanding works the best, and then working up the polishing chart from there.

1500 grit sand

2000 grit sand

3000 grit sand

ultra cut compound/ wool pad 2000 rpm

lite cut compound/ wool pad 1750 rpm

paint cleansing polish/ yellow foam pad 750-1000rpm

swirl/spider web remover- polish or med cut pad 1000rpm

finishing wax/ porter cable polishing pad 3-4 speed

You are probably better off though taking it to a proffesional detail shop in your area. I have tried many times to just "BUFF" it out with little to no success.

By taking it to a shop you can almost garuntee a new finish, however if its just a couple of spots or the whole hood it could run you $75-$150 roughly

If you are planning on using your new buffer alot get a good one . I own a cheep one and it doesnt work as good as my dewalts do.

In addition if it is just bird crap and water spots why take all the time and effert when in most cases distilled white vinager will take all that stuff off.

Please explain!

And I have used my harbor frieght buffer a lot and it's still good. I could buy 8 for the price of one dewalt and even if it breaks just take it back. I wish they had a knock off PC
