I'm scared.... need input!!

I just got this email from one of my regular customers:

Charlie,
I bet this is a "first" for you (at least I hope so!). So....
hypothetically, what would you, as a professional detailer, do if someone were to tell you they'd spilled coyote urine in their trunk.
Urrgh. I've never smelled anything SO bad in my life.
Jill

:surrender  :surrender

Any ideas/input on what to do in response to this? I'm calling her tomorrow morning to find out what she's talking about. Right now I'm thinking urine-gone and a couple odor bombs would do the trick, but what else?

First off charge a ton.

Next do a very thorough carpet regimen. YOu might think about renting a shampooer or something becuase im sure the smell will linger in YOUR vaccum or extractor.

ICK.

Oh believe me; this job is $300 MINIMUM, even for just the interior.

Since it is in the trunk, I've already thought about just yanking the carpet out and pressure washing it. The thing I don't know (I'll find out tomorrow) is if any of it got on the back of the back seat. If it did, that means I'll have to yank the seat out, too.

Good call on renting an extractor; I definitely don't want my equipment getting destroyed by that odor. For $39, I think I can handle grabbing a rug doctor for a day. Not to mention buying a gas mask (or at least a dual cartridge respirator) and some really thick rubber gloves to wear while working!

I had a bottle of Doe pee leak inside my backpack and soak a balaclava kind of thing...goes over my head and face, and it was an expensive one so I did not want to throw it out. I soaked the backpack and facemask in URINE-
GONE for two days (3 soakings) then washed. Odor completely gone and I wear this thing over my nose, so there's my vote for Urine-Gone.

I'm familiar with the fox piss, and it's about the same "strength" as Doe-in-estrus, but it won't put lead in the pencil like the Doe pee will:D

Power washing won't get it so don't even bother with that option. Oxy Clean won't do it either. You are going to need something specifically designed for urine odor. like KroDad said and that even took 3 tries. I would try a 50/50 white vinegar and water let it dewel over night. And then I would go with a cold water and baking soda. Yeah I know a little old school. This process will definetely take more than one day. A trunk full of urine may require you to do the whole car! But take the job definetly and charge fully.

What kind of car is this? the smell might come out and then it might not...I was thinking about a new rug kit for it....sounds like the most effected area is the floor portion right? then a replacement would not be that expensive.....the rest I would strip out as much as possible then clean with APC and put back together

I would think you would need some type of Enzyme cleaner to get rid of the smell.

Along these lines a janitorial supply house as all kinds of these type of cleaners

OK, I'll be the first to ask....

WHAT THE HECK ARE THEY DOING WITH COYOTE URINE IN THE CAR???

Maybe I'm just nieve, but I have never need to transport animal urine in my car before.

I gave some thought to that as well but in all the years that I have been cleaning cars...I don't ask questions anymore:D

I've bought Urine-Gone before, and actually I just saw it in gallons from Sam's Club. So if I end up with this job, that's where I'll go.... :)

Ah, you folks from the tropics....

Animal urine such as the coyote urine are commonly used by hunters to attract animals they want to kill. Since animals are very territorial, and may be travelling in packs, if they pick up the scent of another animal in "their area," they'll go investigate. So essentially, it's bait.

Ahhh, I guess I wouldn't make a good hunter.

Still, that kinda stuff oughta be kept in the bed of a pickup truck! LOL

you are going to need a strong enzyme odor nuetralizer....hospital or veternarian grade stuff....if you can get the carpet out..pour the stuff in the trunk area and soak the carpet also...I think the home stuff will not cut it...as coyote urine is strong stuff....I use it for trapping and hunting....and I have clothes that still smell of it from a few years ago..it is strong and concentrated ..

I still use it to deter rabbits from coming in the garden....but used for hunting as a cover scent to mask human odors..or in trapping as a call scent...it will call in coyotes to see who strange is on thier turf...or other preditors to see if any scraps of food where left..and ZAP..they get trapped...

best to call a janitorail supply house and ask for the strongest stuff they have....but must be enzyme fortified....

put it this way..it is like the zaino of urines..it just lasts and lasts...

good luck....another thought is to call a trapping supply house and ask them what you may do...

one more thing..if you use a blacklite it will show you where the urine is...like a 18" one...do when its dark out....

here is a product that is suppose to be tops...I called my VET..lol...needed a appt for dog shots so asked.... http://www.doodoovoodoo.com/

Al, Thanks!! That's really good to know. I already told my customer (this is a friend of hers' vehicle, apparently) that I thought it may be more cost effective to replace the carpet the urine was dumped in, but to also expect that the whole vehicle will need deodorization.

We'll see what happens next....
