I just bought a 1996 4runner for my daughter. It has red paint that is in faily poor condition. It has streaks of what seem to be oxidation. It looks like something was sprayed on it that was not wiped off. I'm not sure how to start. I'm afraid to take it to a detail shop for fear that they might just wax it and not treat the real problem. Can anyone give me some advise as to how to start, what to do and generally, what types of products to use.

I can take a picture and include it if it would help.

thanks

Pictures always help... :D
After washing and claying, the next product will be determined by what the problem is(oxidation, swirls, etc.)
In regard to the streaks is there still clearcoat on the paint?

And :welcome to DC hurls

I don't know how much 'detail' you want to get into detailing it, but this is how I would do it and what I would use.

If it is red and you are seeing streaks, then it is almost certianly oxidation. You need to start by cleaning the paint. Klasse All in One is what I would start with. You will have to order that online. Its not on the shelf. I really haven't had much success with products off the shelf for oxidiaton removal. Anyway, I would start with cleaning the paint and see where it gets you. :bigups
