I'm about to give up Klasse/P21S for Zaino (large pics)

I am by no means an expert having just switched to Klasse, no topper, last September but I cannot imagine any product being longer lived.

The Passat received just one app of AIO and one of SG and there positively still is product on the finish. The paint remains slick and the Klasse style pooling/beading continues. This after a real New England winter and an awful lot of 'no touch' washes with who knows what hideous cancer causing-chromosome altering chemicals-speaking of which, I have started wearing gloves when applying any detailing product.

Of course it will be done again soon, next weekend, perhaps even with a topper of Griot's Best of Show (no silicone) and its what I have on the shelf.

Then again.....

Whatever happened to just plain Klasse AIO/SG without waxing? That seemed to be the whole point to using Klasse (and Zaino, too, I guess) - long-lived protection for people who can't be relied upon to wax regularly (such as me).

So the question I have for you Klasse/P21S folks is, if you are regularly applying carnauba, why bother with the Klasse? What does it bring to the table?

I'm trying to decide what to use for my teen-aged son's first-ever detailing. I can't assume that he will religiously keep it waxed, so it's between Klasse and Zaino. (I happen to love 'em both). But if Klasse needs carnauba to keep up with Zaino, then Zaino is a slam dunk.

I used Klasse AIO/SG for 6 months on my truck with no topper and three coats lasted the whole time before I stripped it for another full detail.

People who use Zaino seems to like the high shine it gives while people who use Klasse AIO/SG seems to like the deep look it provides. They then top it with P21S to make it even deeper. They get the protection of a synthetic as well as the ability to layer a wax on. They then get the deep wet look of Carnauba. This method is actually good since P21S doesn't have the best durability of a carnauba so if you don't get around to reapply P21S you still got Klasse on there.

I've topped four coats of Klasse SG once with P21S and you can tell a difference between the uncoated and coated panels.

Klasse/carnauba is an awesome combination for me. I really like the durability of the Klasse with the wet look of the carnauba. But, since I work rotating shifts, if I don't get to wash/wax the car every week, I know it's still protected and I'm not going to obsess about it. Furthermore, my car is a daily driver and I'm pretty confident that most of my swirls and other asundry environmental damages will end up in the Klasse layer, and not the paint. The carnauba (either Souveran or S100) is merely to enhance the looks - Klasse is my workhorse. It's some pretty tough stuff.

I'm also no expert on the application of SG. I screwed up somewhere in my spring detail, and spots are visible where I screwed up (at least to me). So I'm still learning. Just another excuse to strip it and start over!

I spent Friday afternoon getting car ready for Zaino and applied 3 coats of Z5 with ZFX on Saturday. I can't say that it blew my socks off but again the car is only a few months old and it looked perfect after this round of polishing.

Zaino didn't seem to alter its looks at all but I will keep layering and will see what happens.

The old truth is that paint preparation is way more important than a wax you use...

I'll take some pics in a few weeks and post my comments about my Zaino experience.
