IHG...How often??

I think I read somewhere that IHG has mild solvents..If so, is it safe to say that applying it over a carnuba wax will remove it (carnuba)??

It is my understanding that IHG will remove any carnuaba that you already have on the car. It mostly has oils and fillers. I would apply before carnuaba.

If IHG is anything like #7, then it's gonna strip waxes and sealants. It stripped my Klasse and always stripped my #26 when I used that a lot.

OK so i've heard that IHG is pretty abraisave and i've also heard that its not abraisive at all. So i'm guessing its a little abraisave if it removes wax.

Not necessarily. In a glaze, I would think that wax/sealant removal is more due to solvents than to abrasives.

Yes, this is right as far as I know. IHG and #7 may contain some amount of fine "dust" in its ingredients, but in practice it is all but non-abrasive. I imagine you could sit there rubbing for a long time without doing much of anything....

Just to muddy the waters a bit :o , in another thread we've been discussing applying IHG over top of Vanilla Moose, APPARENTLY without its removing the VM. But generally, yeah, those solvents in IHG (see below) are gonna be pretty tough on ANYTHING.

As for what's really in the IHG, here's the info from right off the bottle:

Contains: Stoddard Solvent; White Mineral Oil (petroleum) pH=7.8-8.0

Note there's no mention of anything that could be considered an abrasive. As 4DSC said, in practice it's about as non-abrasive as anything can be.

The MSDS I have for it also says this..........

Cas: 66402-68-4

Name: KAOLIN

% Wt: 1-5

Which would lead one to believe that it is slightly abrasive. If anything I would apply it before waxing.

Also realize that an MSDS does not list ALL ingredients of a product.

From what I can tell the Stoddard solvent in IHG acts as a carrier (evaporates eventually) and the Kaolin clay provides a little friction to allow the fillers to do their job. I don't think there's enough of each to do any damage.

IHG is about as unabrasive as you're gonna get in a glaze. Yeah, the solvent will prolly remove most of the wax but after 90 days or so its gone anyway. I see no reason to constantly glaze and wax unless you're showing the car in competition. Just do the process once and redo when the wax is gone.

No, no, no... not a cleanser. Because of the Kaolin and the solvents, it does have some cleaning properties (e.g., stripping wax and sealants), though. However, it is still a glaze in that it was designed to fill in the swirls and such in your paint.

Also, you might notice that there are some paint cleaners that will do the same thing but don't do much for swirls and small scratches. That's because they really are cleaners and not glazes, whereas IHG is a glaze. :xyxthumbs
