If you have rotary, do you need a PC?

I thought I posted this but it must have been lost.

For all you guys that have and use a rotary do you ever fall back to the PC for any reason or will the rotary handle all jobs better than the rotary.

I used a rotary only for many years. I just picked up the PC in the last 12 months. I like it for my car or a special situation, but its way too slow for production work for my taste.

I like the speed of the Cyclo and the results.

many use the rotary for cutting and the PC for final finishing. Both have a place. Learning to use a rotary will save time.

Sorry, Change

If you are planning on doing lots of details, I'd say a rotary can accomplish everything a PC can (and more). But not the other way around. Out of all the exteriors I've done, there's not too many times I kicked myself for not using a PC.

I see that number of people uses PC to correct after rotary.

Yeah, add me to that list. I always finish up with the PC or (much more often) the Cyclo. Some people can finish perfectly with a rotary, but I'm not one of them. Note that even Mike Phillips of Meguiar's (a true rotary expert with decades of experience) uses a PC for his final pass.

And I love using the Cyclo for LSPs, can't see doing that with a rotary but I suppose it's possible.

....and then there are the cars that only seem to be "finishable" with a rotary....:D:D

SpoiledMan- Good thing you have the magic touch, since you're doing cars that require it :xyxthumbs I'm always impressed by people who can do kind of work. Pros who do a lot of different cars run into stuff that I'm glad I've *never* run into...

Any way you could've done a job that with some specific product and a Cyclo? I've never had anything I couldn't do with that if I used the right stuff, but I'd be SOL if it ever *did* happen :o and I always feel lucky that I have a zillion polishes to choose from when I run into the rare problem-child.

Thanks Accumulator! The newer black BMW's have some weird paint on them. In *my* experience attempting to finish with any type of dual action polisher(Cyclo, PC or Dynabrade) is an exercise in futility. You get the little hooks or hazing but no a clear finish. It takes some down right fine finishing polish, soft pads and the rotary to get to the "sweet" spot.;)

I use both machines. On many cars that I see, I dont feel the need to attack with the rotary. I enjoy using my makita way more than my PC, but for things like applying LSPs and such, I am glad I have my PC. I've just recently begun to apply paste wax via pc, which I finally tried because of Accumulator posting about it. Is a PC absolutely necessary? Probably not, but it does come in handy sometimes.
