If you have a Flex DA, how do you polish with it?

Im starting on my dads car later this week. Ive already guesstimated sorting out decklid, roof, and the hood is gonna take me a good chunk of hours; about 6-8 hours just on those panels alone.... Meanwhile, I smashed thru a customers entire car with abc decon, wash, clay, one-step polish, and wax in just under 6 hours with the b06040 and a few foam polish pads. Go figure.

I figure you're doing a better job on your Dad's car.. As in, many, many hours worth of better ;)

Your customer's one-step sounds sorta like what I do on things like rentals or family/friends details, and it's simply a different kettle of fish compared to a vehicle you're really sorting out.

Well, truth be told, dad's car is going to be the first car Ive had to do a multi-step in a good while. I did it many years back with a bunch of stuff (almost sure I posted about here, just cant find the link), and it came out pretty decent considering I was learning most of the stuff on the fly. It only took my dad a few weeks to mash it all down. And then to add insult to insult, roof tar seeped down all over the glass, and the hood, and hardened up real nice. Since he's selling it anyway, I figured Id give a good send-off.

As for the customer car, I actually caught a break on that. It was a crown vic no less, and the owner was pretty good about its up-keep; only touchless or hand washes. Still, it had some swirly stuff on it, and I was able to knok them down with some Hi-Temp stuff and kaio. Sadly though, he's the exception. Mostly everyone else give their cars a good caning at the tunnel washes, so I just abc/ clay the paint when I can, and hit em up with a glaze and wax. Got to the point where I havent used my ksg or z2pro in darn near over 2 years, save on my cars.

usdm- Sounds like you did luck out a bit on that Crown Vic, between it not being in awful shape and the paint on those being kinda easy to work. Still, big car.

Hope your Dad's keeping his car a bit nicer these days! Maybe seeing it all cleaned up for disposal made the lightbulb come on for him.

8 hours to do 2 steps? Hang it up cuz. Once You've figured out the cut and polish pad of choice on a car, it should only take about 4 hours depending on size of vehicle to do both steps.

4 hours to do a 2-step correction?? When working alone it takes me at LEAST 6-8 hours and thats if it is a smaller vehicle with a PC. Maybe its time to upgrade to a Flex? I have a Makita but am not comfortable enough to use for all steps.

I recently bought a Flex DA in addition to my PC, and I quite like it. I'll often use both, perhaps the PC for pillars and stuff like that, and for LSP. I waited for a sale with a vendor that carried it, and pulled the trigger, it's great. I don't know how much better the 7424 XP is over the original 7424, but this video might give you an idea of some of the future effort you could save yourself. (OK I googled: 7424 3.7 Amp Motor, 7424XP 4.5 Amp Motor; 7424 Speed 6 OPM - 6000, 7424XP Speed 6 OPM - 6800.)

Still, the video has the Flex work only a bit more than half the time that the PC did, and the results are still not comparable. The Flex has a max of 9600 OPM. This might not be very apparent to you when first using it, but the much bigger throw/recoil of the 8mm orbit will be impossible to miss.
