If you HAD to choose only ONE polisher...

I'm not spending loads of time on a PC attempting to remove any 3000 grit wet sanding marks. The makita works faster, less vibration, and gets the job done. I believe to also be successful you need both. I use Makita and PC on ALMOST every detail in some way, shape or form.
 
Just curious.......for the rank beginner,like me.........I take it that rotary polishers are not the way to go to begin with & need more experience in using polishes, etc.. Assume that the PC is still the best beginning device, correct? What's your take?

If you are only doing this to your vehicle and just want to maintain the look with the occasional polishing job, I would say just get the PC. If your gonna be doing people's car and charging, I would say get the Flex.
 
This is kinda a wierd thread to me. The main reason is I'm seeing three main machines here a porter cable, flex, makita 9227. All three are completely different The makita is a rotory, the PC is a orbitol machine, and the flex is a d/a all three are completly different machines. but if I had to choose one i would use the dewalt dw849. Its a work horse, and also you can get the dynabrade Dual action backing plate and make it a D/A
 
Makita. I've never had a problem finishing out hologram-free, I don't know why I would need a PC. It would be nice to apply wax and stuff, but that's it.
 
The thread is just for giggles (haha). But there seems to be too much rotary fear going on...



I started with an 849. It's more robust and feels better made than the Makita.

And i also have the Dynabrade RO head kit, good for ultra soft clears. Haven't

touched either since i got the Makita (and improved my technique).
 
why does everyone say the makita...whats so different between that and the hitachi...last time I checked, there was a 50 price savings with the hitachi???
 
Eric have you ever used the hitachi or makita? I thought your a p/c user. In all seriousness there are differences in durability.
 
I own a 9227c and Flex 3401 and I'd go with the Makita. I do love finishing with the Flex though.



Why have one when you can have both? :)



Compounding with the Makita and finishing down with the Flex is pretty hard to beat and the Flex is almost foolproof.
