The cars they have for sale, with truth!

I've been looking for a get around town car under 2K for a while now...My source is the newspaper and Craigslist....Seems that on the last few cars that I have called about or seen. The seller fails to tell you the most important parts about the car.

I looked at a 95 Jeep Cherokee in the pics showed that body to be straight, rims looked clean..not detailed to my spec, but then I don't care about that part....I get there and its from a lien lot...the inside looked like he had a college frat party and stains to match...the back window was gone..he was putting on some plexiglass as a replacement....needless to say I told him I would pass.

Others that I have looked at they are salvaged titles, lien, repossession, wrecked on one side, with the pic showing the good side.:wall

I've sold for a living for most of my life the best approach is to tell them up front what it is, if that's the deal breaker then that's always going to be the deal breaker.

Key phrase right there.
Around here, 1 to 2 grand buys a beater.
3 grand will buy a beater that has most of the paint on it and many are "presentable".
$5,000 buys decent transportation, $10, 000 will buy a lot of nice cars and $20,000 will buy a really nice used vehicle.

I do agree with the ad content, but you have to learn how to read them.
Highway miles = Yeah, and a lot of them.
Runs good = It probably doesn't look too great.
Looks great = It probably doesn't run too good.
Really priced right = Usually has a salvage title.

None of the above is intended as a joke, that's some examples of some of the ads I have had experience with.

have you given autotrader.com a shot? I've sold two good cars on there and I bought my DD Focus on there. Not usually a huge selection of cars, BUT if they have a bunch of pictures, that means they PAID to list it....Craigslist, IMO, though fun to peruse, is kind of joke when it comes to buying anythign decent (cars anyway).

Charles here in CA our 2k cars I think are different as we do not have the weather that cause cars to rust and in general age faster, than cars in areas that have server weather and sit out in it for years...

I totally agree with you of how things are listed...Its just frustrating to show up and its 50% or less of what the pics translate

I think you are asking a lot for a sub $2000 car. It doesn't matter where you are located either. Texas has no rust weather but in that price range it's likely to be a clunker so one should expect it....along with the way it's advertised.

Yea you get all kinds. $2k doesn't get you as much as it used to but some people just aren't honest about the cars they are selling.

I used Autotrader.com to find my truck that I bought used. It has nearly every option available yet the dealer listed maybe half of them in the add. Even when I went in to look it over they had no idea what options were actually on the truck.

I think you might find the beater your lookin for but it could take a lot of looking at basket cases. GL with that search :yay

I think you are asking a lot for a sub $2000 car. It doesn't matter where you are located either. Texas has no rust weather but in that price range it's likely to be a clunker so one should expect it....along with the way it's advertised.

I'm not asking to much, just honesty in the description of the car and pics...I know that under 2K you are limited as to what you get and the condition...but posting pics of the good sides of the car and being misleading is not going to sell the car any faster.

Two years back I brought this car for $700...detailed...dropped in about $300 and sold it for $1800 after I drove it for a year...when I listed the car, it needed a clutch...and I listed that in the add...told the guy that brought it...thinking that he would ask for some cash off the asking price, but he didn't...the clutch was about $700...had I kept the car I would have had that done at some point.
