I was in the Newspaper today

Wow! Congrats--Firefox doesn't like the Free Press' site, but the first article is quite glowing in nature. How did you luck out as the "example" in a much broader category?
 
I just went to their website and sent a press release to a few of the names on the list. I did this a few times and then I just kind of gave up hope. About 3 weeks ago one of the guys calls me out of the blue and says he wants to do an article on my business. He came out and interviewed me, the story got pushed back a few times and had me wondering. Then today I get a call from some investment guy (sales call) telling me he saw the article in the paper. I had no idea it had printed and he was how I found out.

Congratulations! Very nice article and it even had a few reasons why cars should be detailed regularly! After seeing a member of another forum posting pics of his Z4 after you detailed it, I figured you had to be doing pretty well, based on what he thought of the work and the pics he posted.

Oh I definitely plan on using that article for advertising, no doubt. Let's just hope it isn't one day and done and that a few more prospects come over the wire.
 
Bad news to report, wouldn't you know I have this kind of luck. After the article came out I have booked up my schedule through the end of May, that is the good part. Today while I am detailing I get a certified letter from the post man from the city. Immediately I was like oh sh*t. As it turns out it was a letter from the zoning department. This guy read my article and saw that I was working from home and realizes I am in a residential zone. When I call him he actually has the article, so now he is going to come by and meet with me and I could face a citation. This really blows, such a crappy break when things seemed to be looking up. Doesn't this guy have bettter things to do?

Now I am screwed, I will have to be 100% mobile, most of my business is pick-up and delivery. I guess I should have seen it coming but I have such a quiet spot where I detail, it doesn't bother anyone.
 
Congrats on the article but poo on the zoning department. The only thing I see wrong with conducting business in a residential area is the in-and-out frequency of people. Other than that, you should be ok.



I know it's okay to have a business in a residential home... even two! You just have to read the fine lines in between for your county. :xyxthumbs Hell, I run my company and my parents run their company in their residence.
