I can't find the "Clay Magic" anywhere! I local body shop supplier has the "Meguiars Body Shop Professional Overspray Clay". This is a black plastic jar with a screw cap with two white colored clay bars and they feel really sticky. This was $20.00. Discount Auto and Pep Boys have the "Mothers Caly bar/w lubricant". Which is better?

Thanks!

You can't find Clay Magic anywhere? That's really odd. Definatly stop by every AutoZone untill you find it. They are the only retailers that I have seen carrying it. They can order it for you if they don't have it. Mother's is a good second choice, but no match for a good bar of Clay Magic.

I'll second the comment on the Meguiar's. I too avoid it now after trying it once. I found it to be so tacky I was going back and having to clean the clay "skid marks" off the paint even when using the bar with VERY liberal amounts of QD.:down

I received a sample from American Shine Clay a couple of weeks ago and find it's results much more promising and easier to use.:up ;)

American Shine is pretty much the most bang for the buck....$17.xx for a huge bar. I don't remember who makes them, but it is a private label job of a big time player....

Damn, you guys are great. Now that was a quick response!

I know the Clay Magic bar is the best and I did call the only two Auto Zones in my city today and they discontinued the Clay Magic the manager told me. He said they had Clay Magic on sale a few months back but now.....no more left!

So my only choice is the Pep Boys Mothers kit.

Thanks!

Look in the phone book under Body shop or something in that nature. I called around and a paint shop had it for $20-$30.

I tried Mcguires and it gummed up and stained my paint.

Bought some Mothers in a kit with lub and did both my cars and both came out great, really liked the Mothers and hated the Mcguires.

Am trying to attach a picture of my PU with the reflection of my PT Cruiser after Mothers claybar and Mothers Reflection, don't really know how to add a photo but am trying.

For retail clay bars, Clay Magic's blue bar is the best by far. Easy to mold, works very well and lasts a long time. The Mother's and Formula113 bars are too plasticky for my tastes.

The Meguiars Body Shop Pro Overspray Clay is not meant for regular claying. It is for heavy paint overspray. Even then, it is too sticky, so I mix it in 50/50 with Clay Magic's blue bar. Voila! Works like a charm.

from Griots Garage.. I find it pretty good and easy to get via the net or a phone call.. comes in its own storage jar as well.. anyone else try it?

Wow, I just checked the www.automagic.com website and they have tons of new stuff. I might buy the fragrances from them. Anyways, email them and ask if there is any place you can get it Austrailia. He'll probly send you a free bar. Thats what I did and I got a bar in 3 days.

I have tried Clay Magic, Meguiars (the detail kit from Autozone), Mothers and Erazer.

First, WOW, I'll make sure to avoid the Meguiars Body Shop Pro Overspray Clay. That sounds nasty. THIS IS NOT THE MEGUIARS CLAY BAR KIT sold in auto stores. I have had excellent luck with the regular clay in all but the hottest weather (it looses its shape in heat and requries a lot of refolding). The normal Meguiars clay bar is white, and slightly softer than other clay bars but it works well. If I have a cold fall like this year, I find most other clay bars too stiff and use Meguiars exclusively. It is also very economical. 10 bucks for the clay bar and lubricant.

If you can't find Clay Magic, Eraser and Mothers are a synthetic poly clay that work well if you make sure not to let it run down the surface. It can stain if not caught quickly. A quick wipeup with a towel solves the problem. I personally don't like the plastic feel. But it has very good results.

Of all the products I've used, the end result is the same. They all remove surface contaminants well. So the determining factor should be availability and ease of use.

Aaaagggggh!!!! Too many products! They're trying to be like Meguiar's and confuse us with all their stuff! They have 3 separate polymer sealants, 10 rubber/trim dressings, and cleaners/degreasers out the wazoo...

Fellas, I already bought the Megs' body shop overspray clay bars(white in color)(2-in a jar) so should I keep it or return it? They bars are very sticky(dry )and I have not used them yet......

I checked Target, AutoZones, Walmarts, Pep's, etc. and no luck finding the best bar, the "Clay Magic bar".

Thanks for all the great feedback!

I haven't tried it, but I find there's not enough people that like it, and too many people that hate it, to trust the Meguiar's clay. Just return it and buy a Mothers clay kit instead, which should be WAY easier than trying to find Clay Magic.

I like the Zaino bar the best. I prefer it slightly more than the Mother's bar (I've decided that I'm not crazy about CM). They aren't too sticky & leave no residue. Plus, I can get the Zaino bar from my local Z distributor who lives 15 minutes from my office. The package comes with two (small) bars for around 18 bucks.

The CM bar is cheaper and might perform a little better (I liked it a lot at first), but it tends to leave a little residue (on your paint AND your hands) if you don't use enough lube. Plus, how do you guys store your CM bar? I stored mine in a glass jar with several squirts of its own lube. A few months later the stuff disintegrated and sorta looked like that nasty pic AlBoston posted in his thread "Look what happened to my 'praised' claybar". I guess I just prefer the plasticky synthetic feel of both the Z as well as Mother's claybars.
