After reading so many articals and reviews about the PC i now want to to take the step and buy one. Not yet have i seen a bad report. When looking at the kits i'm unsure what comes with what. For example what size backing plate comes with the kits and is it velcro?. what size backing plates will i need to be able to use the velcro foam pads and so on.My mind just boggles at the thought. I'm now a proud member of the ebook and forums and the knowledge gained is unreal but i'm now overloaded with information. So could you please guide me into the right direction as what to buy pads and polishes wise. I have light swirl marks and minor scratches on a dark green metalic vectra. Not quite as bad as in the ebook artical "perfection shine" with the honda s2000.

Thank you in advance for your time

For example what size backing plate comes with the kits and is it velcro? Typical sizes are 5" and 6". And yes it is velcro. There is also the Edge Kit that does not use velcro, and can be used on both sides. There is also a 4" and 7" for the smaller and larger sized pads. It seems from what I have found that 6.5 are the most popular size and either a 5 or 6" can be used for them.

My mind just boggles at the thought. It is a lot to understand, but try reading some more in the learn section and you should see some helpful information.

So could you please guide me into the right direction as what to buy pads and polishes wise. This information will vary depending on the person and their preference. Edge, Lake Country and Meqs seem to be the most widely used. Try visiting the site sponsors for the products in question, as they offer a nice discount and good rates on shipping.

Just keep reading, and I promise, it will start making sense. Besides, sometimes you have to just try stuff to see if YOU like it.

Your welcome! I remember trying to figure out the same information as it seemed like there was too much to understand. There is a wealth of information out there, and don't forget about the sponsors forums. If you cannot get a PC at Lowes for cheap, I would definitely recommend getting a kit with pads and polish in them. Good luck, and don't be worried to ask questions. Try searching though before, as some people will not respond if the topic has been covered a million times. O yeah, welcome to autopia.

I think all of the PC kits come with hook and loop backing plates and pads. They just have different sets of pads. I actually price compared all this stuff, and it came out cheaper to buy the PC at Lowes and then get the pads/backing plate separately. Most velcro (hook and loop) pads are between 5.5" and 7". The backing plates come in 5" and 6" variety. From the opinions I've seen, you could really use either backing plate with any of the sizes. I think the pads I got are 6.5", and I got the 5" BP, and it seems to do the job fine. I was afraid if I got the 6" BP it might not leave me enough room for error.

As far as polish, I don't think you can go wrong with any polish talked about here. Some have their selling points, like with Optimum it's the fact it doesn't dust like others. A couple of them are better for working in sun, etc. Just starting doing some searches. Then as far as sealant, wax, glaze, and all the rest it comes down to what you like the looks of. Ask 100 people what the best wax is, and you'll probably get at least 20 different answers.

I just went through this process not too long ago so i will see if i can help you out.

I got a 7336sp at lowes for $47, If you want i can scan and send you the recipt so you can price match as well. Then i was just about to pull the trigger on a set of Edge 2000 pads and a budy i know who works at an auto parts store told me he could get me a deal on pads and polish, needless to say it got my attention. Turns out he got me the backing plate all 3 levels of meguires pads medium cut polish and swirl remover as well as pure carnuba wax for 65 bucks. I have used higher end polishes by hand before and i can say that i wont be using the meguires stuff once I finish this botel. But I unded up getting all the stuff i needed to start polishing for just over $100. I like the meguires pads but then again i havent used any others at this point in time. But I will try more stuff in the future. But I can with out a shadow of a doubt say I love the PC!!! works like a charm.
