When clients complimented my work. It used to go like this: Client, "You did a very nice job on my car." Me, "Thank you." and that was the end of it.
Now, when they compliment the job I say, "I'm really glad you like my work. Can I give you a couple of my business cards?"
They take the cards and give them to their friends. When they refer someone, that's when I call and tell them thank you, then, before I do the car for the person they've sent, I let that person know how much I appreciate the referral and how seriously I take it.
Then, when I do their car and they say, "Great job." You know the rest.
Since I stopped saying thank you to compliments and started saying thank you for referrals I've been busier than ever.
