I think I'm causing the liner scratches via my WW towel

Any tips on using your WW MF towel.

I am using the JT ones. My car is black and I find that the towel doesn't really absorb the water when blotting. It starts to absorb once the towel is fairly wet though.



So I just wipe the car dry, following the direction of the airflow. I do see small linear scratches that are induced by my toweling methods.



What to do...



California Water Blade. Looks good but all it takes it one speck of dirt to ruin everything.



I'm washing my towels correct. Light wash with Tide and plenty of rinses afterwards (no fabric softner) - just hot water.
 
I'm not familiar with the JT towel. I have/use a WW from Pakshak and one from griots. Maybe it's the towel itself because you say it starts to absorb when it's "fairly wet". Makes me think that it's kinda rough when it's dry.

I do the dry with water technique first (see link) and then dry with one of my WW towels. I try to avoid any rubbing action and mainly blot. How often do you wash your towel ? I try to wash mine every other use.

Try using a liquid (Woolite or Dreft) to wash towels as opposed to powders like Tide, you may be dragging some powder that’s been left in the towel.

I was assuming you were using liquid tide, but if you are using a powder, that could be the culprit.



I have both Pakshak and JT WW's, and have not had this problem, but then I don't have a black car.
 
I wash after every use. It's thrown into the laundry machine with liquid tide (very small amount), washed in hot water and then rinsed in hot water with the extra rinse cycle.



Anyone else with a WW towel ? Does it behave the same as mine ?
 
Try wiping the glass down first, gets the WW all wet and absorbant. I find the same linear scratches on my car, I think it may also be from washing and possibly from drying.



I think once your an autotopian those little things are something you notice where before you didnt. I havent been able to eliminate them on my daily driver but I can reduce and later correct them. For some reason mine always appear on the trunk and rear, leads me to believe its from washing since that is the area with the most dirt.

I haven't used the JT WW, but it sounds sorta funny to me. My BBT and Microfibertech WWs absorb quite well using the blotting method. Yeah, they work a little BETTER when they're a bit damp, but they absorb OK when dry too. FalconGuy's "windows first" suggestion is sorta what I do, I CWB the windows and then finish them off with the BBT to "prime it".



Maybe try the "CD test" with your WW. All WWs are NOT the same, some are a LOT softer than others. My softest ones (Autopia and MFT gray) are VERY soft. I can't see them scratching paint under normal circumstances. If *I* were doing black cars, I'd ONLY use the softest, gray ones.
