I think I know why people like high end Zymol waxes

Souveran ...stains trim almost 0.

Not even "almost". In fact, I use it on *rubber* and plastic trim on the XJS. Have for *many* years, no problems at all.

Can't tell you about durability, as that car just sits in the garage....it seems to last forever in a garage though, at least if you keep it in a corner where sunlight doesn't hit it :D When I actually drive a car with Souveran, I just redo it at every wash.

Pinnacle is an expensive wax that smells good and is probably one of the easiest waxes to apply that I have ever tried. It's so digustingly easy to throw on a coat that you don't mind waxing every time you wash and it gives a shine that's probably even deeper and darker and wetter than Zymol especially after 2 coats.

Yup, and the stuff gets "obscenely" easy to use when you pop it out of its container (a.s.i. DavidB's article on the Porter Cable) and apply it to a finishing pad and apply with a RO. (or in my case....a cordless RO). Without exaggerating, I would say that it takes me no more than 5-7 minutes to apply it to the entire car. Removal is a breeze too.

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM!

Interesting....I have a feeling I would end up dropping it on the ground, but still...HMMM!

What we need is a giant lipstick container that screws into the wax and keeps me from the inevitable "dropping of the $60 wax on the ground incident".

I want to give my perspective on these waxes, and clear up what seem to be a few misconceptions.

First, Zymol waxes like Carbon, which cost about $40, do not say anything about hand/finger application. I believe some of the very expensive Zymol waxes suggest hand/finger application. I have never used them, and don't plan to. Zymol Carbon applies just like most carnubas.

A comment was made about how dificult it is to remove Zymol. Maybe you have a defective batch of wax? Zymol has always been easy for me to apply and remove. I have two of Autopian's favorite waxes, S100 and Pinnacle Souvuran, and I have Zymol Carbon. I switched to these after running through Balckfire II and Zaino.

The instructions for these waxes are essentially the same. They all say apply to a small section at a time. Zymol says do not let it dry before removal, and PS and S100 say no need to let it haze before removal. I suspect these products are very much the same, and the application and removal insrtuctions are the same. All are high end carnuba waxes, and in my use, they all remove easily.

These are all great waxes, they look very much the same to me, and they all evaporate (in weeks) rather quickly. Personally, I like working with Zymol better, as it smells great, removes easily, and for something real subjective, water just dances off the surface.

I have used S100 and Zymol for years, PS for a few months. I think PS looks good, but it is very short lived. My car mostly garaged, will hold a coat of PS for 2 weeks. I get 4-5 weeks out of S100 and Zymol.

Souveran holds up pretty well for a beauty wax. I use it monthly on the Rolls Phantom I clean regularly, and it beads like crazy still at the one month point and is noticably slick...and he drives the Rolls. When I cleaned and waxed it again yesterday, it was absolutely filthy from driving it in the rain.

Zymol is very popular over here, seemingly with the Porsche & Audi fraternity in particular and it's very expensive when compared with almost every other I've seen including Souveran (I think the cheapest available retails around the £60 mark so about $100).

I've not used it so can't comment on its abilities or performance but a neighbour's M3 has been professionally treated with Zymol (which he was told would eliminate swirls...) and he's said to me that he feels the depth of shine on both my cars looks better - hence why he wants me to work on his.

Swissol also enjoys a following over here - again very expensive from what I've seen but also again not one I've tried.

I think a lot of people over here do tend to buy based on price - "if it's expensive it must be better"......

.....whereas I just spend far too much period but excuse it as an illness.

Their car, their choice at the end of the day.

Hmm, very strange. I have gone through a couple different cans of Carbon, so it's not a deffective batch. I have tried buffing when it has not completely dried/hazed, and I have tried buffing when it has sat for a long time. The only way it was ever acceptable...forget easy...was to leave it on there for about 1/2 hour until it had hazed completely and then buff. Even then I still got major streaking if I didn't go around the car a couple of times with clean cloths each time.

My technique has improved since then, but not by *that* much. I dunno...I tried it in all different weather conditions as well...cool and dry helped enormously but still did not eliminate the problem. I mean, it didn't even compare to Souveran or any other waxes or sealants I have tried....not even the same ballpark. It was without a doubt the hardest protectant to use I have ever tried.

Just my 2 cents...not arguing with your experience...very wierd!! :nixweiss
