I've heard that Rain-X is no good because it leaves a film on top of your windshield that will eventually leave a little haze on it so that it's a little more difficult to see. Is that true????? I would like to start using it, but if that's true then I definitely won't. Thanks.

Use it all the time, and very happy with the results. <strong class='bbc'>CAN'T stand using the wipers![/b] Drives me crazy.

If you have Klasse AIO, try that instead, seems to work just as well. If you don't have AIO, then Rain-X is just as good.

NYC Civic,

Make sure you get your windshield super clean before putting the Rain-X on. Then follow the instructions exactly. Shouldn't have any problems.

I love Rain-X! I drove home from Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in what seemed like thunderstorm that would not end. I never had to turn on the wipers once!

what does rainx do anyways?

is it some liquid applied to the windshield?

if it ever messes up my windshield can it wipe off easily with car wash or something?/

how much do it cost?

can i put it on all my windows?

604 you used this as your first post :)

Rain-x I believe is a type of wax that makes water super bead on your glass (so much, often, you don't need wipers during a downpour). Sometimes people have a problem with buffing off its haze. I use a little water and microfiber towels to buff it out, no problems.

However I'm starting to just use a drop of AIO and a mf applicator or an mini mf and a lot of water followed by a MT. It works well and you can clean a dirty window, unlike Rain-x where you have to clean the window first. It seems to either replinish the Rain-x or just finish off what the Rain-X started.

If you want to try it (use AIO if you already have it) they sell "moist towelettes" of that stuff in packets for like $0.99, it'll do all the windows.

I love Rain X!! It is just about a thousand different alcohols. Makes for a very slick windshield. Nothing sticks very well so if you live in buggy area then it is great. The other great benifit is that frost is easier to get off. My window rarely frosts up anymore. All the other cars will be frosty except for mine. It is good stuff.

AIO= Klasse All-in-one: Synthetic sealant that cleans, polishes, and seals.

MF= Microfiber Towel: A special type of towel that is made of polymide and polyester. Microfiber (MF) towels are great for removing waxes, drying, dusting, and cleaning windows.

MT= This is the thickest, plushest... simply the best microfiber towel.

SG= Klasse High Gloss Sealant glaze: Synthetic sealant that can be layered over AIO.

oops sorry about that, duh, I commented that you are a newbie and then put abbreviations all over the place (I dumbass)

for me MT=microfiber towel for many MT=Miracle Towel (but I only refer to the microfiber towel that is the same as the MT (just doesn't have the name) as an MT (for legal purposes I guess)

This is the product I went to. Far superior, last longer, no fogging of glass, slicker, etc.

Anyone else used it. Was sold at one time under a different name by STP.

Today, after reading your post, called my people at PPG in the paint division and asked who to contact over in the coatings division.

Gee, they were looking for an automotive oriented, marketing, etc company to take the line and make it available as it seems that the wheels have fallen off their marketing efforts.

I am going up Tuesday and meet with them, since I will be there anyway to work with the paint people on the new clears.

Who knows, may have it available again.

I personally, and most of my people have found it to be better than Rain-X.

One thing I will check into is a better and easier way to apply the coating to the glass.

I think I have the answer, but will see.

RH,

I found this site which sells the Aquapel.

http://www.protruckercat.com/Visibility.htm

I am glad Ron is looking into application questions though, as I am unsure how much of the product is needed to coat an entire windshield, back windshield, and side windows.

Anyway, RH thought you might find this link useful.

Ron or anyone on the forum,

Do you know how one can remove previous coatings of Rain-X?

I applied a coating of Rain-X over CLEAN glass about one month ago. I want to switch to Aquapel, but wanted to remove all Rain-X before I apply the new product.

If alcohol will do the trick let me know, I doubt it, as that means most auto glass cleaners would remove the coating.

I have a Porter Cable DA, would a clear coat polish remove the Rain-X? The more info the better on this subject, glass is always so tricky to clean, and to KEEP clean!

Thanks
SJ

Thanks SJ.

At PepBoys once I saw a bottle of stuff that was labeled as being used to remove windshield coatings like RainX. It was near the painting supplies. Dont know what chemicals it uses though...

RH

Thanks.

Yeah, always have to be careful about what type of chemicals you put on the glass, car etc. Maybe someone might have a "homemade" mixture I can put together for removing the stuff. I will check Pep Boys though.

Yeah, at 10.00 a pop, Aquapel might be a little pricey depending on how much it takes to coat an entire car. I am interested to see what size bottle etc Ron can obtain and detailed instructions for installation/maintenance.

Not to bug the @! out of you, but wanted to ask if you had found any info on Aquapel from your trip to speak with PPG. I saw you had returned on another post you made regarding Klasse. It would be great to learn application technique and if autoint will be planning to sell the product.

I know that sometimes you can't let the cat out of the bag too soon, especially when you are dealing with product companies, marketing that product etc. Anything you can tell us is great.
