I Need a waiver

Does anybody have a waiver form that I can "lift"? Long story...but somebody sanded factory paint with 400 and wants me to buff it out. Normally I'd run, but the car belongs to the owner of a large service shop, so they have the potential to send me a lot of business. I just don't want to be responsible...

When is the appointment?

Is it still in 400 sand marks? Did they buff it out?

400 grit would almost instantly damage the clear on most factory cars.

400-1000-2000-cut-polish. Not much clear left in the best hands.

Perfect example for X-Kote.

I went out and loked at it yesterday. Don't know if I'll get the job or not...my price might have scared 'em.

Yeah, I knew something didn"t add up if he sanded with 400 and didn't go throu the clear...I pulled out my ETG and found out all but 2 panels had been repainted - he got lucky! nearly all the panels were keyed...and he only sanded one panel.

does it work? have you used it?

I do use it and there is a learning curve to it.

It is not perfect, maybe 9/10th.

I will try to give a write up with some pics in a few days. I am also fairly new to this, but it has it's place.

I've yet so see any compond or polish that can get out 400 grit sanding scratches. That's usually the last grit before painting.

To do it right you'd have to wetsand some more w/6-800 --> 1200 ---> 1500 (can go higher after that if you want).

unless there was a lot of clear coat there before I'm willing to bet that car will need to be re-cleared, if not painted.

I would've gone out there with some 600 grit sandpaper I've been let soaking overnite and some water. Then try wetsanding a spot. If you still get a milky white substance building up on the panel in the waste water that's Clear Coat and you might have a shot and bringing it back.

That or have a paint meter.

Personally if it were me and the customer wasn't a friend or something like that I wouldn't touch this job. "somebody" may have to pay for a re-paint and I wouldn't want anythig to do with that.
