I know literally nothing about generators

Can someone who knows an ounce more about electricity than me tell me what numbers and what info I need to look at on my equipment to know if a generator I'm shopping for will run each piece of my equipment? Yes, I'm that dumb.



Hoping to get something relatively small as van-space is becoming scarce with all my equipment. I'll likely only be running one piece of equipment at a time on it, but I realize the vac and extractor are going to be a much bigger strain than the Porter Cable.

Make a list of your equipment and what the running wattage is. Your vacuum will be around 600 watts ( or 6 amps ). Keep in mind that most devices use 3x their running power during start up so you'll need a generator with at least 1800 watts of power for the vacuum. I have a Honda EU2000 cycloinverter and it has no problem with my rotary, DA or vacuum. I only use one piece of equipment at a time. I don't take my extractor when I do mobile work.
 
List out the electrical device you want to run and also mention the watt of each device.Sum up the watt and buy the generator more than that.Suppose you max consumption is 9MW you should buy 10MW - 12 MW capacity generator as security purpose.
 
Add up the start-up amps of any motors that need to run consecutively and then multiply this by the voltage used (115) this will give you the watts output you require from a generator. A good rule of thumb is to choose a generator that supplies more power (+10%) than you actually need.
 
The answer is an EU2000. It will run anything you can plug into a standard 20 amp outlet. You can use and abuse it for years and then sell it for what you paid for it.
