I just bought some swirls...

... with my new car.

Just bought a black 02 vette, with a few swirls, so I decided to see if I could get rid of 'em. My first time using a PC too. I was a little worried about the results, but it didn't turn out too bad. About 85% of the swirls are gone.

Dawn Wash (clayed 1 week ago)

DACP #83 (orange cutting pad on speed 6)

DACP #83 (white polishing pad on speed 5)

NXT (gray buffing pad on speed 4)

I also experimented with some 3M SMR on a portion of the car on a polishing pad after the DACP but the results were not that great so I skipped it and went straight to the NXT.

Here's a before shot of the hood:

And here's the results after:

Sounds exactly like my probelm. New RX-8 black with same type of swirling. Tried the 1Z MP today with orange and white pad without success. Like the results you got. Will probably try your routine. Thanks

actually I did some family cars as well and got about 80% out.. still major improvements but not as good as I want:nixweiss

nice car...

tell me its stick.... i just saw a hooked up yellow corvette... with a s***load of mods.. and then i look inside and its auto? damn!

but if yours is auto... thats cool too... cause its your car, not mine... but im just curious.. as stick is my preference

good job on the detail... you're gonna love the way that car looks when its clean.. i dont think i could deal with keepin a black car swirl free tho.. guess im weak? :D

I bought a bottle of SMR when I bought the 3M RC and never used it. By the time I got home with it and read some posts on here I decided to stay away from SMR's all together, and of course I lost the receipt so it will just be sitting there until I find a use for it.

You definitely need another step after the DACP, I can see what looks like polisher induced micromarring and/or a hologram effect on the hood. You can follow #83 with #80, 3M PI III MG, or 1ZMP to get rid of those (polishing pad of course). AIO wouldn't be a bad idea either as a final step before your NXT.

Yep, it's a stick. It took me the longest time to find the options I wanted with a 6-speed. The last car I had was brand new when I bought it so it was easy to keep it looking new. This one is more of a challenge since it's black and I'm not the first owner, but I love a good detailing challenge.

I wanted to try another step after the DACP but didn't have enough polishing pads at the time. As soon as I get some more pads, I'll have to give one of those a try. Now to decide which one. So many choices... Thanks for the info.

I'm kind of funny when it comes to choosing products. I like to stick with one brand. If you are definitely going to always use #83, then I'd go with #80. On the other hand if you go with 3M PI III RC instead of #83, I'd go with the matching 3M PI III MG.

Sport's cars should only be available in stick :) Glad you made the right decision.

That hood shot is SICK! So deep and wet !

Great looking ride and congrats on the purchase :up

Yep yep, same thing here. Hood of an '03 vette... had to be repainted, and the buffer monkeys did a totally horrid job on it. I finally ordered some DACP and went to work on it with CMA yellow / white pads.

Came out nearly flawless.

If only mine was a manual. :xyxthumbs

nice job, car looks wet! :D

and nothing wrong with an automatic trans, they're great for driving in rush hour traffic. ;)

u have any pics of the a** of the vette? :D gotta love the curves from the back.. maybe its cause thats what i always see... (need a faster car)
