Vehicle: 99 Mazda Protege LX

I was going to order the BFGoodrich G-Force Sports, but the price jumped almost $20 a piece overnight. :( But it's not like I have much torque to put to the ground anyway, so I'm sure the Ecsta SPTs will be just fine.

:woot: :woohoo:

I can't wait!!!

CONGRATS Paul on the new shoes!!! :hifive:

Kuhmo is actually an excellent tire brand for the money...I doubt very much you'll be disappointed.

Looks good. Should make a definate improvement in looks on your Protege. Post pics when you get them installed; we all wanna see.

Setec - I was very anxious to get new wheels, and tires that DON'T squeal around corners at 10mph

I'm still going to get winter tires for these wheels, because I am now officially known as the UW-Stevens Point Aquatic Toxicology Lab Assistant :D

So I've got a job now, and I can save up money for snow tires.

Truzoom - no, the speedometer difference is less than 1%.

Pats - I'll be sure to take a ton of pics before and after from the same angles, to give a direct comparison.

The plan is as follows:

Friday night - Drive to parents' house (where the goodies are shipping to). Wash/AIO/WG the wheels, let the WG cure overnight, and apply another layer in the morning. Let that dry for 30-60min, remove, and install the wheels. Of course the tires will also get scrubbed, and WG gel will be applied (2 applications) to both sidewalls (inner and outer).

After the wheels are on, I'll finish working on a red '00 Protege that really needed some work. I fixed the exterior last week (very faded) and I'm going to wash/wax it this weekend and do the engine bay. I may even enter it in the contest this month. It was sad to see a nice Protege in that condition. :(

Yes I am. The Ecstas are on the new alloys, and the snow tires are going on the 14" steelies. Until I get them, the old (actually pretty new) tires on the 14s will stay on.

Order tracking shows that my packages are already within 25 miles! Awesome! But I still won't be able to see them until Friday night. :(

Congrats! I have had a set of Kumhos on my Civic and hated them. They tracked all over. I hear their new designs are better and don't track all over. I love Tirerack though. I run their Avon tires and love them.

The spt's are supposed to be much better than the 712's they replace. i love it when people dog on the kumho's though, shows they really have no clue what they are talking about. the mx's are one of the only worthy competitors to the s03's in the max performance street tire category, and the victoracer v700 are pretty awesome for track tires. Most people think kumho suck because they had a set of 712's. buy cheap tires and expect problems is all i can say :)

Good to see a new pairs of shoes, Paul.

Okay, slap them on and go on the back road and start drifting :grinno:

...Intitial D :D

Can you read? Didn't think so. :P Nobody was dogging Kuhmo's. I said that the new ones were better and did not track.

I think what hadboostroy was saying was that people sometimes bag on a whole brand of tire just because they had one particular line or model that wasn't so hot. Every brand has crappy lines and models--you can't judge the whole brand based on one line, new or old. But I think we know what you meant. It's all good. :)

The V700 and MX have always been good as long as they've been around, AFAIK.

Nice new shoes, OP. Pics would be great. :woot:

White95Max- Congrats, your Mazda is really coming along.

Don't forget to put four of the OE lugnuts in with your spare tire (along with the "key" to your locking ones), I'd guess that the lugnuts for your new wheels might not work with the factory spare.

That's true. I'll put 4 of the OEM lugs in the trunk as well as 4 of the new ones that come with the wheels.

It is definitely coming along well. I really want a spoiler, and I can get one, painted sunlight silver and ready to go, for about $100. I decided that I'll wait until after winter for that though. It's easier to QEW without worrying about salt and grime around the spoiler base.
