I hate when people don't show!

Last week I got a call late Thursday afternoon and this guy said he needed his car detailed for Friday and asked if I could do it Thursday night. I said sure and asked when he could swing it by. He said as soon as he got off work he was going to run home, eat and put a few things on hisc ar to get it running. (I think he added a turbo that was not finished yet). Anyway, I call him at 7:00 and he says he is almost done and he will be over soon. Well, my cousin was over so we watched a movie and I called him back at 9:30 and told him it was too late for me to do it now and he said he would bring it over in the morning. So, I get up early, do some work in the garage and he never shows or calls. About 1:15 he calls and says he has to get two vacuum lines and will be right over. FREAKING 4:15 he shows up while I am in the shower getting ready to go out to eat. WTH?!?!?! I never answered the door since I was not decent and he just left. That sort of stuff ticks me off beyond all else.

Yeah I hate that. I also hate when people lead you to believe they want their car detailed and then you keep following up on it, and they either keep leading you on or they act like they were never interested.

I get that a lot too! I had one of my aunt's called and asked a bunch of questions for her dad and then she appolpgized be cause he said he could get it cheaper somewhere else and she was sorry he wasted my time. I guess he was never really interested. I get people all of the time that ask me prices and ask for suggestions and then never get anything done. I just don't like wasting my time is all.

I have several friends that keep telling me that they know people that want their cars done. "Yeah he said he wants his car done" they say. When in reality the person probably said something like "that'd be cool". Something that doesn't suggest at all that they want their car done. Then I'll be led on to believe that I have several jobs in the next week or something.

I even detailed someone's car for free and I maintain it too, and I did it for free since he said he knew several people that want their cars done and he would bring them to me. Well it's been about 2 months now and I haven't heard from any of them. I didn't even get a tip for detailing his car either. :(

I get that too! My mom wants her car done....my buddy says he is going to call you for a job.....so and so should be calling you soon. And they never follow through. LOL

The poor guy scrambled to get his car running so you could work your magic on it and you didn't have the balls to answer the door??

I have done my share of engine swaps, mods, up grades and sometimes the car fights you.

I would of at least have answered the door and explain to him that you were off work.

Did you not read my post? I was in the shower man. Has nothing to do with having balls to answer the door. And I have done my share of work as well but if I am running late I have the "balls" to call the person and tell them. Not tell them at 1:15 I am coming right over and show up 4 hours later.

LOL It's all good. I think not answering at all was better than answering nude. LOL

That's my M.O. Sometimes it's better to say nothing at all than to tell the customer something they don't want to hear. You definitely don't want to blow up at the customer.

I could write a book on people's inconsideration, insincerity and complete wackiness. I'm amazed at how some people carry on with their lives. :grinno:

When I first started out in this business, I almost gave it up and went back to the 9 to 5er just from the disgust of the lead ons and no shows. Im glad I stuck with it although it has been an uphill battle to get firmly planted, It was all worth it.

I hate when they call me and ask about pricing then say they want to do it, but have to call me back to figure out when they are available. BS They never call back and its always after they ask my age (I dont know how that comes into play), like that means s**t. :angry

This is good to read. I'm at that stage now, but I guess I'll keep at it hopefully it will get better especially when I get older and earn respect from the customers. Not that they are a** holes or anything, just that they dont think I know what I'm doing and dont trust me. :angry
