Ok so i was at work the other day and i come out oh about six thirty or so just as it is about to get dark. I cross the street to where my truck is parked and see glass laying on the ground as i approach my truck i see some @$$ has busted out my rear window and unlocked my door and stolen my radio etc etc. Not only this but they seem to have spent some time getting in the truck as there is a giant deep scratch and dents from a prybar or something. Also they put a prybar between my window and the door and pried it out so now i can stick my freakin whole hand between my window and my door on the driver side. Not to mention numerous chips and scratches from where the glass exploded. Needless to say i was very unhappy i got a report filed and gave them the serial # to my CD player although i am really more worried about the paint. I can buy a new CD player and put it right in but now i am going to have to have the door and another body panel repainted i think ( i am going to get an estimate today) What if it does not match etc etc keeps going through my mind. What all should i know before going to the body shop. This freakin sucks. Anyone here have a similar situation. Thanks guys for makin me feel better.

Daniel I feel terrible about what happen. Happened to me several times in Boston ( normal way of life in the Big City). and once at college. Such a empty feeling. :(

Hope everything works out okay.

man sorry to hear about that, thats why i hate leaving my car in parking lots at night because of thieves. and even during the day because of idiots who swing their door into your paintwork.

as for the paint match concern these are some rules which i ilve by:

1. do they have an oven to quicken drying times

2. any examples of previous work via portfolio or some sort.

3. ask if you can be shown any finished paint jobs so you can check the quality yourself, if they say no then leave the place as they shouldnt have a problem with such a question.

4. how long is the waiting list? this doesnt always apply but if they can fit your car into their schedule in the next few days it often means they have no customers due to poor workmanship. but as stated earlier ask to be shwon around.

hope that helps, and good luck.

also take a look at the condition of the shop and the other clients that go there and their cars. if the shop doesn't take care of itself who knows how well they take care of the cars.

good luck

I'm very sorry to hear what happened to you. I've had 6 radios stolen in my life time. Part of the price you pay for living in NY. Hope everuthing turns out well for you!

That stinks, sorry to hear that happened. As far as the paint goes, someone hit my car and had to have parts replaced and repainted. I took it to the dealer thinking that they would for sure be able to match the paint. (03 350Z) I got the car back, and it was totally covered in dust (probably on purpose) so it was hard to tell in the light of the body shop whether it matched or not. The next day I cleaned her up and she was two-toned. In the sunlight it was painfully obvious. Paint didn't match at all, and not to mention the swirl marks all over a previously un swirled car. We took her back, had the owner of the dealership look at the crappy job they did, and they ended up doing the paint job over, and subbing out the work to a pro detailer to remove the swirls. Moral here is to make sure they guarantee the work, and check out the paint job carefully in several different lighting situations before you accept the job has been done correctly. Also, unless they are pro detailers too and not just a body shop, tell them NOT to wash your truck--more than likely they will not treat it like you would. Good Luck I hope it turns out for the best.
