Ok, so I have another question does compounding or polishing eat away at the clear coat?
These techniques and tools and compound products are not supposed to wear out the clear coat, that`s the whole point, right?
 
Yes polishing and compounding does remove clearcoat. That is why it is very important to polish then protect what you have polished. Around here we like to use "the least agressive method" to save as much clearcoat as possible. After correcting your paint you should not have to use a heavy compound again. You can use a light polish to maintain your paint, but even a light polish removes some clearcoat. The more you learn, the more you see that you need to learn more. Remember all this is fun!
 
I highly recommend the grouts garage 6" over the porter cable as it has one life time warranty and two has a stronger motor and having both I would never go with porter cable

yes, but very slowly .. that is why, with your concern, I recommend a non-abrasive polish and using finishing pads rather than polishing or cutting pads :)
 
Mistakes- My advice is to keep studying this stuff until you achieve a full understanding of the mechanics involved.

Removing marring (in the literal sense of "making it no longer exist") from autopaint is the same as removing scratches from...well, most anything. You gotta abrade away the surface surrounding the scratch until the whole area is level. Exactly the same as sanding a scratch out of a piece of wood or polishing a scratch out of a piece of stone.

The amount of clear that can be removed *without compromising the UV protection that is necessary* is quite limited so clearcoat removal should be an extremely infrequent thing and shouldn`t be overdone. Which is why *I* prioritize not marring things in the first place.
 
Did PC ever resolve the "hollow shaft issue"? Just wondered...I myself would buy a GG Boss15 or a Rupes if I were in the market for a polisher.

That could be cool! Pizza and beer is still in my head. I`d be willing to meet up with a "crew" and get some work done. I`d love to host, but where I live isn`t friendly to non-residents (long story).

One great thing about our own detailing day, we wouldn`t have to worry about "quiet on the set" - Adam Carolla made that difficult last time!! He can be funny

Lol I`ll just feed you guys bread and water. A couple 15 min breaks as it`s mandatory by California law.
