Hydro Tech Pads Yes or No?

I bought a few a while back for one specific job needing a delicate touch. I used a crimson pad with PO85RD and they worked great. Have not used them since. I am wanting opinions on whether to buy a few more so I could actually use them on an entire car not just spot repair with the few I have.

Do ya'all like them? I know, I know "Hydro Shred". I've heard all that but would they hold up for AIO type apps?

The cutting pads (cyan for Lake Country) will shed because of the closed cell structure and and stiffness of the foam. The tangerine or crimson pads will last longer.

I am a big fan of all three pads, infact I used the cyan pads today on a rare DeTomaso and was really impressed with the cut AND finish with M105. Under halogens it looks nearly perfect when used with a rotary, even after several wipe downs.

Also the crimson pads absolutely rock with PO85rd. The polish stays on the foam (vs. absorbing into it) so you can clean it much easier. The firmness of the pad is also ideal for the oscillating motion of the ROB DA.

I almost use the Hydro-Tech pads exclusively just because they cut more than their open-cell counterparts but also finish nicer. Another benefit of the closed-cell design is that more product stays on the face of the pad meaning a longer working time for most products. My favorite of the trio is the Tangerine polishing pad. When paired with a quality AIO such as Pinnacle XMT 360, Optimum Poli-Seal or Klasse AIO, it's an unbeatable combination. I've also had excellent success with the Tangerine pad when used with Menzerna Power Finish, Super Finish or PO85RD or any other quality medium cut polish.

Like Todd said, the Cyan cutting pad and Meguiar's M105 work beautifully together.

A couple weeks ago while prepping a vehicle for Opti-Coat application I found a couple scratches on the rear quarter panel that I could lightly feel with my finger nails. From past experiences I knew M105 and a Cyan pad would be my best bet without resorting to a wool pad or a Surbuf cutting pad. Needless to say, I grabbed my trusty PC 7424xp, a 4" Cyan pad and a bottle of M105 and went to work.

As you can see, the Cyan pad paired with M105 easily removed the scratches and provided a finish that could easily get away without the need for a second polish.

The Cyan, Tangerine and Crimson Hydro-Tech pads are a must have in my detailing arsenal because they work great and eliminate the need for six or seven different foam pad types. :D

Give 'em a try and be prepare to become addicted. :rockon

Todd is right on the mark with the LC Hydro pads, I myself love using them all the time. It's true that the Cyan ones do shed because of the closed cell structure and and stiffness of the foam that Lake Country made, but they do work very very well. All of my wool pads are in their zip locks waiting to come out and play on paint, but these are doing the job fine by me. BTW my answer is Yes.....

I love the Hydro pads, especially the tangerine and crimson! :rockon

Ever since I've started using the MF pads for the main correction I haven't had much need for the cyan pads.

Thanks for the feedback guys. AutopiaTech, love the examples of the work. Very nice!

I just picked up a few more pads. Looking forward to trying the AIO option with the crimson.

Try the Tangerine with an AIO and prepare to be amazed.

I may be the only person who hasn't had issues with Cyan pads shredding or crumbling. The faces have gotten a little "patchy", for lack of a better word, but they still work well for me. Never any issues with the Tang or Crimson either. I absolutely love both of those pads!

My Cyan's last pretty well and generally have been pleased with all my hydro's. I agree with the consensus on the tang and crimson, especially the crimson, I don't know what it is about the pad I love. But I side with Rasky about Meg's MF for the first step, haven't used anything since I picked it up.
