My experience is simply this, when companies merge things change. That doesn`t automatically make it for the worse.

I purchase from a company that sells commercial lawn equipment and trailers. They were family owned and sold out to a investment firm and most people never knew it happened. The family still works at this business and instead the company got better because they had more money to invest in operations through the investors. They still treat everyone fair and opened another location to serve the market north of them.Win-win situation for all involved in this case. I can already imagine PBMG west coast division.
