until now all detailing by hand , i now have a pc7424 im excited to hit my 04 jetta and 00 pathfinder. Black colour(moderate scratches and swirls, fading), and if things go well maybe start to make some jobs on the side. anyway first thing is first, heres what i plan on doing.

M83 via PC with LC orange pad

wolfgang deepgloss paint sealant or Megs NXT 2.0



please suggest any alterations or substitutions,



also i was thinking of a finishing polish of some sort before the wax/sealent will that help.
 
I'm sorta in the same boat as you. I've got a 02 black Jetta and a PC 7424. VWs have a hard clearcoat.

I've been reading a bunch. I plan on ditching my pads and going to some 4" pads and have come up with the two options so far for polishes.



Menzerna Super Intense Polish (SIP) with orange cutting pad

Menzerna Nano Polish (PO106FF) with white finishing pad



or



Poorboy's SSR3 with orange cutting pad (some say yes, some say no with PC)

Poorboy's SSR2.5 with orange cutting pad

Poorboy's SSR1 with white finishing pad



Poorboy's 3 polishes comes in at about half the cost of the two Menzernas.



What do people think of those ideas?
 
I'm not sure the question you ask can be easily answered. A general rule of thumb is to only apply the amount of correction necessary or suitable to the problem. (e.g. you don't use a sledge hammer for a small finishing nail).

Higher density foam (orange) pads are generally used with more abrasive compounds for more serious paint repair. Having said that, I'll confess that there are times I'll use a yellow pad with polishing compound - it all depends. If the surface looks bad, maybe you do need to work a more agressive compund with the orange pad, then come back with polish on a white pad...but try the least agressive first, then increase as required...(so in your case, try working a mild polish with a white pad first...if that doesn't work, go to yellow or orange with a more abrasive compound - make sense?
