How to Wash Microfiber Towels PROPERLY - AMMO NYC Video

Here is the quote from Leo (DFTowel) that I linked to earlier in the thread:

"Neither hot water nor household dryer heat will do any damage. Obviosuly for cotton there is never a problem. The melting point of Polyester is 500F, Nylon is 505F, a household dryer may reach 200F at most. The reason manufacturers say to use low heat is they are afraid of malfunctioning dryers creating hot spots. If you have a malfunctioning dryer I'd be more worried about the house burning down than a few towels! To date I have never seen polyester melt in a dryer, never heard of anyone else seeing it either."

I wash with hot water & dry on low heat. No problems. I'm guessing my water is about 135° or so - but it's just a guess. I boiled one towel once (CarPro BOA) and it ruined the softness of the towel.

So, IME - washing with hot water is fine. Boiling is not.

Don't know any Leo.

I've always washed towels used to remove abrasives (compounds, polishes and AIO) separate from other towels. Does this make sense or is it overkill???

While I could make a pretty air-tight argument for why it's overkill, I do it too and IMO the added expense/hassle might be worth it if only for your peace of mind. It *is* worth it for my peace of mind.

I think it depends on the nap of the towel. Long nap, especially non closed-weave, may be degraded. Drying towels, waffle-weave, IME, do not degrade after boiling. However, it's enough of a gamble that it shouldn't be recommended unless a towel has gotten to the point where you're considering throwing it away. Further, I'd say once, maybe twice, is max for boiling a towel. It's not something you'd do routinely even if it worked.
