how to use #9/#7 by hand

i am getting ready to rework and change products on a car. its a brilliant silver mercedes sedan, that the paint is in pretty good condition, and lives in the garage and drives only for pleasure. :D

i dont have a PC, and so all the products will be worked by hand.

i know there is a gazillion products that i could use, but the items i have ready to use are: clay > #9 > #7 and wax.

the thing i am unsure of is just "how" to work the polishes. ie: wet vs dry, product amount, hazing time, bonding time, wait time between, etc.

i plan to apply both in small sections by terry pad using straight motions after initial spread, and remove with MF.

ive read a million post, and am sure that many might suggest different products, but unless i am told that these products are an ABSOLUTE MISTAKE :nono or simply cant be worked by hand, plan on using the 9>7 combo.:p

i havent decided on the wax yet, maybe NXT, probably GC.

TIA for any suggestions. - ben

Do not use a terry cloth pad, use a folded terry cloth towel (folded into 1/8th's size) and refold for every section when using #9. You can use a foam hand pad for #7.

scott, thanks for the advice on the terry towel.

the thing i am really unclear on is to what degree or extent to "work" the products.

do i use the smallest amount possible and try to work the product in until it diminishes or dries, or basically WO-WO?

i would presume to work the 9 in very well basically to "level" the surface (removing/hiding swirls) as much as possible, and then to use the 7 (glaze) less aggressively to leave a freshly polished surface ready to accept the protective wax.

am i on the right track here?

any further advice on hand working these products is GREATLY appreciated!
