Carguy, great set of photos...And I admire your keen eye...I feel like I have some kind of rare affinity to many of the members of this forum...I too am afflicted....I notice EVERYTHING. YOu mention the Cal water blade..Am I the only one to notice that the soft silicone blade has an affinity for dust and grit? Just one swipe with it can cause numeruos parallel swirls in the top most layer....These are easily removed with something mild like Meguiars #9, but still, why put them there to begin with?
Carguy, my latest fiasco was that I had been wanting to remove the last of some minor scratches in the hood of my white '99 M3 caused by a stupid hood bra...(will I never learn?!). I had gone the hand route, but I was determined to get rid of them...So out came my rotary...Mild, though..never over 1600 rpms, with yellow Meguiars polishing foam pad, using Finesse It. A few moderate passes did a pretty good job, and now the front third of the hood where the damage, minor as it was, was located is pretty much gone....And at first, it looked like glass...Really awsome smooth, glossy, and wet looking..
But, holy cow, under another set of lights, I noticed what looked like a haze of fine dots, almost like a surface dust layer, lay across that hood portion. It was not feelable....And it looked shiny as hell...Only, there were these tiny points on the surface...YOu cant see them at all outside, and under most indoor lights...Only some. I thought I was wanting to get the hood resprayed and cleared..
But then I said to myself, this car looks really good...Noone can see what Im talking about....Even to me, its minor...So, the hood will get marks eventually...I'll wait, and get the hole nose sprayed down the road, when its more serious, as I know it will be.
I have no idea what these tiny little marks in the clear are...theres no texture....But I wouldnt be surprised if I took off a tiny bit too much....I was half wondering whether I should try and polish them out, but my fear is Id break though the clear. So, I'll leave them...I dont think glaze would help, because theres no texture with which it could fill anything. Its like a smooth intermittent dust layer on the clear which doesnt wipe off!
So, all I can say is, it really is a curse we are afllicted with!
