How to: Remove Wiper Scratches using Lake Country's glass kit

I love this kit! works really well. does put some strain on your back leaning over the windshield though.

Ahh, so that would be bad for someone who has a bulged disc in his lower back... So it's appropriate that it's back ordered to give me more time to heal :)

I tried some M105 and a yellow pad ( not LC ) about two weeks ago, and I think it actually made the glass look worse if that's possible, so I'm wanting to get this kit to make things happy.

Driving at night, those incoming headlights show all the scratches on the glass.

I tried the same thing and like you my windshield turned out worse. I got the glass polish refil and I had some glass polish pads. After an hr or two my glass was crystal clear with just a few minor random scratches. I then followed it up with Gtechniq G1. I love having a clear windshield now.

thanks todd, i really needed this cuz i tried to do my glass and i think i made it worse... now i need to fix all the circular curly q's i have....

Did you get the curly q's from using this kit? Or is this what you are looking to fix?

This is a pretty old thread, March 2009.

Does PAC sell this kit?

The only one I see on the PAC site is from Autoglym and it is "out of stock".

Is the Autoglym polish as good?

It's kind of buried. You go to "exterior car care", then "Glass", then "Professional glass.."

Here's the link:

Autoglym is a glood glass polish, but it won't be able to remove many or any scratches. I believe that was discussed in this thread, if not, definitely in another thread.

I just used the product over the weekend. I used the methods Todd discussed, plus I put a fan on the front seat pointed at the windshield to give extra cooling power! Let me tell you, it is back breaking work, and takes a long time. At least it's done now, and it is looking much better now at night!

I got tired of waiting for the kits to get back in stock and found a glass polish/compound elsewhere.

I used Griot's 6" glass polishing pads and my Flex XC3401 polisher.

The polish came with no instructions so I followed Todd's excellent advice here.:notworthy:

Todd speaks truth when he says this takes a while and requires quite a bit of pressure. Using the water spray bottle to keep things wet is key.

A suggestion I would add:
  • Tape all the joints near the windshield; front doors, front hood, etc?
You will get a lot of white dust and it gets everywhere so plan on a good wash and polish after you are done. And in that wash use lots of waters, be extra gentle, and rinse your wash mitt more than usual. The cerium polish that can cut glass could do some serious damage to your paint.

I was able to remove just about all the scratches but I had some small pits in the windshield that were too deep to polish away.

The windshield looks a lot better and it was well worth the effort.

I got this kit a couple of years ago from another site and used it this a couple of weekends ago. My experience is that, if you need to remove some etching from bird droppings, instructions need to be followed, which says to angle the pad slightly and apply some pressure. It did indeed remove the etchings and made the glass like new again. My only mistake that I have to go back and correct was using an orange light cutting pad and some Malco's waterspot remover to do the rest of the glass on the whole car It now has the "curly" Q's from the tiny abrasives used in the water spot remover. Lesson learned.

I would imagine that the glass cutting polish/pads would remove the pig tail (curly Q's)?
