hey guys i live in montreal where it snows alot and snow and salt ruined my carpet is there a way i can remove the salt and the snow of the carpet .:)

thnx in advance

I'm sure that there are lots of ways to do this, but unless you have an extractor or other fancy equipment, I would suggest this.

1. With a good scrub brush, brush the carpet to loosen the salt and vacuum really well.

2. Take your favorite carpet cleaner and use following its instructions. A foamy type may work best at loosening the dirt and salt.

3. Vacuum.

4. Repeat 2 and 3 until the carpets are clean.

I did this on my daughter in-law's neglected Protege and it worked quite well. The car spent much of its life in Nova Scotia, so I would suspect it was quite salty as well.

Good Luck :)

Yeah for Nova Scotia, we don't get as much snow but we get rain that freezes at night so we get salted a few times a week.

The process Mid-Life Cruiser described is the same one I use on my VW with black carpet.

I tend to really soak the carpet down with hot water since the salt is water soluable, then use a foamy carpet cleaner, a scrub brush and a good vacum.

Good luck :xyxthumbs

I use Prestone foaming carpet cleaner. It works great on just about everything I've ever used it on. Nothing stands up to that stuff. You can get it just about anywhere too. I bought a case of it off ebay for 20 bucks last year. I was so happy. lol

I'm going to have to agree with Jman, Prestone Carpet Cleaner is really good.

If you have a wet/dry vac, then you can kind of make a poorman's carpet extractor. It is how I use to clean carpets.

If a local place rents carpet extractors, then call and see if they have upholstery tips for them. If they do, then those tips are small enough to clean your vehicle's carpets.

I use Eman Fabrik upholstry and carpet cleaner, spray and work in with an old clean MF, vacuum.

I sprayed it on and let it soak. Went to the quarter car wash and blasted the hell out of them. Remember! A little goes a LONG ways.
