how to remove gas stains from asphalt

So it seems that my car leaks a little bit of gas when it's full (I think it's the overflow tube). Becasue I didn't want a gas soaked piece of cardboard or container full of gas under my car, I just let it drip onto the road outside my house figuring that it would evaporate quickly.

Well, the gas is all gone (although it still smells a bit), but it seems to have left a bit of a stain. I know it's just asphalt and it's dirty anyway, but is there any way I can remove a stain like that?

Oh, and please don't suggest fire. No need to have my neighbors and the condo association yell at me :argue

If it is like a oil stain, you can try one of the following (in order of least to most agressive):

1. Dish soap (dawn) and a scrub brush

2. Scrub with a degreaser and a brush.

3. Add some solvent (clear paint thinner) and some kitty litter (cheap stuff that does not clump). Leave that one for a while. You might want to cover with a plastic bag to minimze evaporation and give the solvent time to work.

I have used all of these techniques for oil spills.

i am not sure if its true, but , i was told that gasoline actually disolves asphalt, or tar, just like some of our dads did years ago to remove tar from the paint on the cars :nixweiss

dont use a degrease to get it out.... i used that to clean the engine in my moms van... it left horrifying/wicked stains on the drive way... it looked like someone spilled a can of white paint!!! id say use just water with a nylon brush or something to scrub it...
