How to properly use a wet vac

I don't have a shop vac yet, but I'm looking to buy one soon. I'm curious as to how wet vacs are used. If one is doing the interior (say, leather), do they just put the cleaning solution right onto the leather and the shop vac will be able to suck it dry after the leather is scrubbed clean? If so, won't there be dried soap residue on the leather? Should the leather be cleaned (vacuumed) using plain water after the soap is used? Thanks for the answers.

I would not use it on leather, a MF with some water and some APC usually is all you need. Wet vacs are usually used on carpets and fabrics.

I see. How about carpet mats? I was mainly curious about the soap residue that is left behind after sucking it up with the wet vac.

I have a wet vac that can spray a mix of water and apc or just water or anything you put in it, and it can also steam. I usually spray the seat or carpet with a mixture of apc and water and then use the vac function+steam and/or water to get it clean, go over it a few times. I have not noticed any problems with this method. Sometimes only steam and water gets the dirt out.
