How to polish windows?

I don't know if you can. I presume you can because there is a kit from properautocare. I already have the small backing plate. Just wondering if there is just one or two products that I could use on the window to get rid of swirls and the nastyness that my window is right now?

You need glass polish and a glass polishing pad.

Works pretty well. On a severly pitted windshield, it won't completely correct the deep pits, but it will certainly make it look better!:D

Check the PAC website for glass polishing products for hand application or by PC or rotary.

Glass Polish??

The "Glass Scrub" product suggested in this thread is not a glass polish.

What glass polish product is recommended for polishing glass with a Porter Gable or rotary polisher?

Ya i know that package but for me that cost isn't worth it. I already have rain X and the small backing plate. What makes window polish so fancy that it needs a special name? What is the compound is there anything we use on paint that can be applied to window applications. I refuse to buy that kit. Seems ridiculous.

The 'value' of that package depends on what your goals are.

If you are looking to remove water spots and stuff stuck to then Autoglym makes an excellent glass polish. It is a light cleaner that will scrub away damage haze, road film, and calcium deposits.

If you have a scratches in the glass, as caused by wiper marks or if you have water etching, then you will need to use a special compound to remove them. This is because glass is much harder then paint. The more aggressive compounds and polishes used on paint contain aluminum oxide abrasives. When these are used on glass then tend to 'clean' the surface instead of correct it. To remove damage to glass requires cerium oxide, which is far too aggressive to use on paint. So to answer your question glass polishes and why they have there own name;it is because it has specialized and expensive abrasives that allow it to do its job.

The 'expensive' kit that you find ridiculous allows you to get the results (over and over) for a fraction of the price that a professional would charge, so it seems to represent a great value to me.

Glass Scrub is a polish, ie a very mild polish. It also has chemical cleaners in it as well.

As far as more traditional glass polishes, Autoglym Glass Polish is very nice, if you are looking to clean the glass.

If you are looking to do correction and remove scratching, you will need a professional glass kit.

I take it back that the kit is ridiculous, but I and many others probably already have the 3.5" backing plate for the PC or Rotary. Most detailers have that item already and buying a package that has one seems wrong.

Eg. Lets say you own Star Wars A New Hope and you wanted all 3. You probably wouldn't go buy the trilogy would you? You would probably buy the two you were missing because you already have the first. Do you see where I am getting with this. That package should exclude that backing plate.

??? I still think it's the best $4.99 I've spent in a while (Glass Scrub.)

If you're attempting to repair scratched glass, then I'm sure you'll need something more aggressive. But if you've got a windshield that's a couple of years old and you can't seem to get it crystal clear, I think that you'll be pleasantly surprised. You'll remove the hard water spots and film that typical spray-on cleaners can't touch (usually around the edges of the glass.)

??? again. I use Glass Scrub very effectively with a PC.

If you don't have a set of 4" pads and backing plate, I'd recommend getting them for lots of reasons. (for PC and Rotary.) If you already have them, you're right, it probably would not be wise to buy a glass polishing kit that includes these items.

If you still think it's ridiculous, well... to each his own.

Peace.

Bottom line is if you want proffessional glass polish from properautocare you need buy a backing plate every time you run out of polish. Seems like a waste to me. If i continued to buy the kit everytime I run out then I will have dozens of backing plates. Does that not seem ridiculous.

Have you fixed your glass scratch problem?

I looked in my cabinet and I have a kit from Eastwood company that contains a special buffing pad on a mandrel and a jar of cerium oxide. As I recall it worked pretty good on some deep scratches of a side window.
You have to be careful to not heat up the glass to much or it will warp, I believe. This is serious stuff and is probably toxic so you may need a mask when you use it.
Their polishing pad is designed to be chucked into a drill, and the pad is probably 2" in diameter I believe..
Check out Eastwood and see if this will work for you..

Good luck
