How to polish a Delorean?

I am going to detail a friends Delorean (it has never been polished, basically just sitting in a garage) and I need some recommendations.

I found some stainless steel polish at delorean.com, but I'm wondering if that is just crap and if I should be using something better.

I have a PC polisher and am looking for advice from anyone that knows.

Thanks for the help!

I contributed detailing articles to the Delorean Club magazine for a couple of years. You're not supposed to polish the stainless finish. It will ruin it! No machines... trust me.

1. Wash it with Dawn.

2. Clay.

3. Use Plexus as a light cleaner polish to get what the clay can't reach and to clean the plastic end caps.

4. Seal with a synthetic wax.

5. Give your client a can of Plexus to remove finger prints.

absolutely no machines as David said and no abrasives either..sorrry forgot to mention that part about polishing, I prefer to do most work by hand. and also always back and forth too, otherwise you will see marks.

Thanks! I trust you, you haven't steered me wrong yet.

I ran across a site where people were actually recommending steel wool.

Not sure what end caps are either.

What synthetic wax would you recommend?

Thanks again for the help!

The end caps are grey plastic. If the car was not regularly maintained, they will be weathered pretty bad.

Take your pick on sealants. You can't put a high gloss on a Delorean because the finish is brushed stainless. It was supposed to be a maintenance-free finish. If it were me, I'd use a non-cleaning product.

I hate to bump this old thread up....but when washing would it be safe to use car soap to clean it up first? Will it leave marks at all? What about drying? Microfiber towel maybe?
