This is the jack I use from Sears.
My B6 A4 does have the slot like you said right by the wheels on the frame. I had to cut one of the sides of the pad down a little so it would fit right in the slot.
The reason I mentioned the lift is I usually use the time for swapping wheel setup's to do a full detail on the wells too.
Seems it would be just easier to take all four wheels off at once, soap up the wells and pressure washer them down (whatever that material in the rear wells is it hold dirt and soap, you need alot of water to get them to rinse clean).
This as opposed to jacking up each tire and doing the wells seperately.
