how to clean you under body.

Interesting way to lift a car...wonder how safe that is? :rolleyes:



Anyway, when I cleaned my undercarriage, I just rinsed it out thoroughly with water, then sprayed individual parts with APC+ 1:2 and used a few brushes to scrub everything clean. I then rinsed it off again. My car has a quite a bit of ground clearance, so it wasn't too difficult to just get underneath it to get the job done. You could drive it up some ramps like some people do, or find someplace thas has a proper lift and will let you clean it when it's up.
 
so a basic degreaser like orange blast diluted a bit will work on that? Is it similer to cleaning an engine bay?
 
Yeah, it *is* similar to cleaning the engine compartment. But at least with the undercarriage there aren't so many things you shouldn't get wet.



I just raise it up with the floorjack and put jackstands under it. Then rinse it out as best you can, trying to blast any loose dirt off. Spray with your cleaner of choice and let it dwell for a while. Scrub with a brush or something and then rinse it off. Repeat as needed. Pressure washers can work well, but you can do a pretty good job on most cars with just a little elbow grease.
 
Once you get the undercarriage clean (or if you start with a new car), it isn't that hard to keep it nice. I wash the undercarriages of our vehicles at every wash, usually just something quick with the creeper and a long handled BHB. Every other wash or so, I'll tilt the vehicle a bit with the floorjack to make things more accessible (and yeah, you bet I put a jackstand under it!). Something like EFHI/APC/TAW in a spray bottle works great- just rinse, spray, agitate with the brush, and rinse it off. It only takes a few minutes and while it's tilted it's easier to do the wheelwells properly too.
 
about once a year I put my suburban up on a lift and go at it w/ SG and a pressure washer. I really need to do my acura, it's filthy!
 
I will have to look at my local hardware store for a pole with a brush on the end or something for the underbody. For the wheel wells, jacking it up and taking off the wheels and cleaning the wheelwells does a much better job then cramming your cand between the wells and the tires.

That's the truth! Even just jacking it up without removing the wheels is better than letting it go. Pretty :shocked what builds up in there between washes.
 
Unless one day I get one of those lifts pictured in my avatar to your left, I just twist and turn under the car and use a door mounted type mirror if I need to get access to those spots. I'm over exaggerating playing it safe.
